Servant of the Red Quill: A Baker Johnson Tale by Terry M. West

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Spooky Demon" Stars

This was a spooky sequel!

A small taste of what lies within:

Baker is back on the hunt for a cursed artifact which this time his road leads him to a man that is having some type of haunting in his home which has taken a hold of his daughter. There is an entity that has taken a hold of her and Baker will need to exorcise the entity before it takes full control of the daughter.

That is about all I can give on a small taste as you will need to read my full review on Goodreads.

Thoughts:

The second book was more creepy as there are demonic vibes running rampant throughout the last part of the story. I am really becoming attached to the character, Baker as he just has a no-nonsense attitude about what he has to do to track down the artifacts and he jumps right in with both feet to help out where he is needed.

The writing style flows along and just keeps me stuck in my seat as I want to finish the story. I keep wanting to see what happens and I cannot put the book down! Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Stuck on You by Jasper Bark

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Gag-A-Maggot" Stars

Do you want to read a twisted and messed up story???

A small taste of what lies within:

A man by the name of Ricardo picks up a lady hitchhiker whereas they both end up in a  situation which gives Ricardo a lesson in "pain".

That is about all I can give on a small taste as you will need to read my full review on Goodreads.

Thoughts:

This was my first time reading this author and what a freaked out twisted ride that I took into the extreme-gag zone! I know that I have never read anything like this before even though I have read some extreme and twisted books, but this story took the words "gag-extreme" to a whole new level! I have a few more books by this author and I am wondering what kind of "topsy turvy hellish extreme ride" he will take me on next!

The Giving of Things Cold and Cursed by Terry M. West

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Artifact Hunting" Stars

This was a cool short reading romp!

A small taste of what lies within:

Baker Johnson's uncle dies leaving him everything including his house. When Baker decides to move into the house he checks a room called the "Black Room" as it is suppose to hold cursed artifacts but Baker is shocked to learn the room is empty!

That is about all I can give on a small taste as you will need to read my full review on Goodreads!

Thoughts:

This was a very short story so I was able to read it easily within one sitting, but I have four more books to read in this series as I am curious to learn what happens with Baker next on his hunt for the artifacts. I have read this author before and I have quite a few of his books simmering on my kindle so planning on stepping into the rest of this series shortly. The writing style flows along and I was drawn into the story quickly.

Slow Burn (Zero Day) by Bobby Adair

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Venomous Virus" Stars

Wow! This kept me on the edge of my seat!

A small taste of what lies within:

A young man by the name of Zed heads over to his mother's house to borrow some money for rent, but he gets a major twisted surprise when his mother is dead and his step-dad attacks him by biting him on the arm. Things go from bad to worse for Zed as he tries to figure out what has happened and what has invaded the people of the city where he lives along with what has happened to his world.

That is about all I can give on a small taste as you will need to read my full review on Goodreads.

Thoughts:

I had read this book back in 2016 along with reading the second book, but I never finished the series, so I am planning on making my way through the 10 book set as I am curious what happens to the character Zed and all those he helps along the way during a zombie crisis of major proportions! Fast paced action from the first chapter and the story keeps up the pace all the way through the book. I literally read the last half of the book within 12 hours as I just could not put it down!

Dirty Martini (Jack Daniels Mystery #4) by J.A. Konrath

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Toxin Terror" Stars

Wow! This book blew my socks off!

A small taste of what lies within:

Jack comes up against a bad guy named the Chemist who is making his way through the city of Chicago murdering people by contaminating food within restaurants and grocery stores with toxic poisons.

That is about all I can give on a taste as you will need to read my full review on Goodreads.

Thoughts:

This book kept up the fast pace and there are plenty of twists and turns throughout the story that kept me glued to my seat. The last 70% of the book I read within 24 hours as I just could not put it down!

The psychological terror and the murders kept the tension running high as I made my way through the storyline. Lots of things were happening with Jack and I swear this woman must be part cat as she gets knocked down but jumps right back up almost as if she has nine lives - nothing will keep her down or keep her from doing her duty to catch criminals!

A House in the Country by Matt Shaw

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Mysterious/Suspenseful" Stars

This was a cool psychological horror story!

A small taste of what lies within:

A couple along with their two daughters move into a house out in the country that has a bad history with a suicide, but when the house seems to come alive with things happening within the walls the couple wonder if they made the right choice when they bought the house.

That is about all I can give on a small taste as you will need to read my full review on Goodreads!

Thoughts:

This was an interesting story from author, Matt Shaw as it was more on the suspenseful and mystery side of horror than "in your face gore" which has become a trademark for this author, but the story had lots of atmosphere and I actually read the book within 24 hours as it was hard to put down!

Beast of Sorrows by James Watts

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Wicked Werewolf" Stars

Snarling and growling action!

A small taste of what lies within:

A man by the name of Ben is passing through a small town called Jericho Hills and decides to hang around in the town for awhile as it seems like it might be a nice place to set his feet, but evil stirs throughout the town and Ben might wish he had just kept his feet moving onward....running would have been better!

That is about all I can give on a small taste as you will need to read my review over on Goodreads.

Thoughts:

The first half of the book was kind of a slow burn as the author did some world building with the townspeople and their lives, but the last half of the book is where the action became almost non-stop as fur and fangs start flying! This was a new author to me and I will be checking out his other work.

Destroy All Cryptids by David Haynes

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Manic Monsters" Stars

Wow! Second book was action packed awesome!

A small taste of what lies within without giving away spoilers:

Everyone is on the move and on the run as cryptids are running free and unchecked. Shaw along with his dog, Girl have to team up with Captain Case as Shaw wants to find his own kind (werewolves), but those two have their own problems to contend with as well. Dr. Borm and Nina (Cryptid Nine) are also on the run as they are trying to stay two steps ahead of hunters.

That is about all I can give on a taste as you will need to read my full review on Goodreads.

Thoughts:

Action packed to the core within the second book and lots more going on with the characters. Everything is fast paced, tense and full of suspense with some twists and turns along the way. The author kept up the momentum of the action with this book as it has not slowed down one bit. In fact it seems the action has become more intense which kept me flipping through my kindle pages.

The Haunted House from Hell by Mark L'Estrange

πŸ‘»πŸ‘»πŸ‘»πŸ‘»πŸ‘»

 Five "Hellish Haunting" Stars

Wow! This was a spooky and chilling story!

A small taste of what is within:

The Jeffersons buy a home that is haunted as a woman killed her son in the house and rumor has it that the woman now haunts the home. The family do not realize what they are in for when the haunting starts happening as besides the woman that is haunting the home there is another entity that makes it presence known and it has more evil intentions.

That is about all I can give on a small taste as you will need to read my full review on Goodreads.

Thoughts:

First time reading this author and I was very impressed at how quick I was drawn into the storyline. The atmosphere of the haunting just wrapped itself around me and slowly drew me into the book.

There was a slow buildup with the story at first, but once things started escalating with the haunting I swept through the story quickly as I read the last half of the book within a few hours as the spookiness of the story just kept me pinned in my seat as I just could not put the book down!

I have a few more books simmering on my kindle by this author and will be stepping into more of his work at some point in time.

Cryptids by David Haynes

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Creature Feature Cryptid" Stars

Wow! This book just pulled me into cool creature horror!

A small taste of what lies within without giving away spoilers:

A cryptid research facility has been performing studies on the beasts. A werewolf named Shaw along with his dog companion are on the run from soldiers that are wanting to hunt them down, but there is another beast that is roaming around and this beast is different as it is causing its own chaos and destruction!

That is about all I can give on a small taste as you will need to read my full review on Goodreads.

Thoughts:

This book just captured the essence of all things "beastly" and there was lots of bloody violence throughout the storyline. Visual descriptions just pulsed off the pages as I made my way through the book! I have always loved stories by this author and this one was no exception as the fast pace "creature feature" action kept me on the edge of my seat!

Flesh & Blood by Lee Franklin

Five "Gravy Gore" Stars

Wow! This was a brutal romp through some descriptive situations!

A small taste of what lies within:

A woman gets snatched off of a jogging trail and taken somewhere to be tortured and brutalized by a couple of men, but what she doesn't know is that things are about to get even more twisted and she is going to be in a fight for her life!

That is about all I can give on a small taste as you will need to read my full review over on Goodreads.

Thoughts:

This book is very short and I read it in less than two hours. Packed with extreme situations and lots of violence made this a quick romp into the twisted mind of author, Lee Franklin. The story moves along at a fast pace and the visual descriptions of the torture scenes leap off the page! Grab your gore suit as you are going to need it for this book!

Sandgroper by Lee Franklin

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Sand Shifting Screaming Insect" Stars

Wow! This was a cool short story of attacking insects!

A small taste of what lies within:

Two brothers and a friend are checking out rock formations on the coast of Australia when a sandstorm surrounds them making them take shelter within their SUV, but that is not the worst of it as the sandstorm brings with it hungry insects that are way bigger than what they should be and they are very hungry!

That is about all I can give on a small taste as you will need to read my full review on Goodreads.

Thoughts:

Fast paced insect action kept me on the edge of my seat and swarms of insects gave me shudders as I really don't like bugs though I live in a place that is crawling with them but these type of insects that come out of the imagination of horror authors are the worst kind! So if you are in the mood for some "buggy" insect action then go grab this book and settle down for a wild ride!

Savage Island by Brian Moreland

🌿🌴🌿🌴🌿

Five "Jungle Jaw Snapping" Stars

Wow! I was just blown away by this story!

A taste of lies within:

Best friends, Amy and Jasmine are wanting to spend some time together as both of them are trying to get their lives back on track. Jasmine is coming off of a nasty divorce and Amy's husband passed away, so they decided that they need time away and what better way to clear their heads then to spend some vacation time in the Philippines.

What they do not expect is hooking up with Ted and Dom who are also best friends and who happen to work in the movie industry. When the four of them get together, Ted and Dom talk the girls into taking a trip on their yacht as the guys want to check out deserted islands for probable movie locations.

They do find a nice cozy island all to themselves and they let the fun times begin as they start to explore the island, but things are not what they seem as the island holds more than just mystery of exploration as something lurks within the jungle and it is hungry for the taste of blood!

Thoughts:

This story just took off and grabbed me right away as it sent me spinning into the jungle vines! There was a little bit of world building in the beginning of the book, but once the four characters make it to the island things start to heat up and the action slowly begins to build, then the author brings everything crashing down with a bang as the story explodes with writhing jungle action in the last half of the book!

This book kept me "ensnared" within the storyline as the characters of the book need to fight to survive what the island has in store for them. I read this book in less than 24 hours as I just could not put it down! Fast paced "nature" action drives this story along with some twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat!

Lineage by Joe Hart

πŸ‘»πŸ‘»πŸ‘»πŸ‘»πŸ‘»

Five "Ghastly Ghost" Stars

Wow! This book took me on a full haunting romp into the unknown!

A small taste of what lies within:

Lance Metzger buys a home on Lake Superior to get away from the city life so he can find some peace and tranquility while he writes his book as he seems to not be able to get his thoughts together or stay focused while writing. But what Lance doesn't know is that the house is saturated in a haunting mystery and it is somehow tied to his own past. The house "wakes up" the more Lance digs into the past of the house and sometimes it is better to leave things in the past as too much digging could result in unearthing something that should have stay buried!

That is about all I can give on a small taste as you will need to read my full review over on Goodreads.

Thoughts:

The beginning of the book was a slow-go and I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to stick it out. There is quite a bit of child abuse and torture in the beginning of the book with not much of a haunting, but as time goes on the story slowly builds momentum bringing the story into a complete haunting by the time the book is finished. It took awhile for the story to move toward ghosts and a haunting, but I was glad that I stayed with it as there were quite a few twists and turns along the way. I stayed up late into the night while reading this book and the last half of the book I read within 24 hours!

Feeding Grounds by David Brian

🐿️🐿️🐿️🐿️

Four "Scary Squirrels" Stars

This was a crazy "squirrely" bloody reading romp!

A small taste of what lies within:

Mutated squirrels breakout of a research facility and go on a bloody rampage in a nature reserve taking out anything that stands in their way!

That is about all I can give on a small taste as you will need to read my full review over on Goodreads.

Thoughts:

I really enjoyed this book as there were tons of bloody action throughout most of the book as the squirrels ran rampant throughout the story! Twists and turns throughout the story, along with suspense and tension kept me barreling through this story as I kept wanted to see what would happen next.

They Rise by Hunter Shea

🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈

Five "Shark Infested" Stars

Wow! This book was a feeding fest gone wild!

A small taste of what lies within:

Something is happening down on the ocean floor which is making chimaera sharks rise up to the surface of the ocean causing chaos and havoc for anyone that gets in their way! You do not want to be in a boat anywhere near them or even in the water swimming as the ocean will turn from blue to red in a heartbeat!

That is about all I can give on a small taste as you will need to read my full review over on Goodreads.

Thoughts:

As always with books by Hunter Shea, the creatures he writes about are always blood thirsty and they create terror wherever they go. This book was no exception as the blood, gore, and feeding frenzy of the sharks made this book a bloody romp into the waves of the ocean.

The visual aspects of the book brings everything into sharp clarity as I could feel the desperation, tension, and suspense of the characters as they had to endure the attacks of these sharks. Another favorite book added to my "Shea" collection!

Food: Winner, Winner, Chicken _ _ _ _ by Jeffrey Caston

 πŸŒŸπŸŒŸπŸŒŸπŸŒŸπŸŒŸ

Five "Freaky Food Fest Competition" Stars

Wow! Another great book in the Food series!

A small taste of what is within:

Four contestants have to compete against each other to win a grand prize of high quality food for a year, but they have to do endure some extreme situations to accomplish that goal! Who wins and who loses in the food competition?!

That is about all I can give on a small taste as you will need to read my full review over on Goodreads.

Thoughts:

I was drawn right into the story and this book is a very short romp with about 58 pages so it is a quick read in about an hour. Not too gory this time around which is known in this Food series, so I only had to wear half of a gore suit! lol

Fast paced writing style though as usual for this author and I have to admit there are some gag moments while reading the certain situations that the contestants have to endure, but all in all it was over quick! However, there are a couple of animal mutilations within the story so it might not be for everyone. Another favorite book added to my ever growing pile of "Caston" books!
