Melody, a defense attorney receives an unexpected letter with details from a crime that was committed and the man that sent the message is wondering if she would represent him. But when Melody receives another letter from the man is when she receives a twisted jolt! 

That is about all I can hand out with a small taste as this story is super short so if you are intrigued then go read this short story!

Thoughts:

I never know what to expect when stepping into a Kempf story and this story took me down a dark path of crime deeds. Even though the story was short it packed a punch of emotion with why the crimes were committed and then the story takes a 360 degree turn which made me wish this had been a novel as I wanted to read more with these characters. :)

I read the book within just about an hour and the pace was fast from beginning to end. Another great book by this author and looking forward to reading more by him as I have a few more simmering on my kindle.

Spy on the Run! 

A small taste of what lies within:

Chandler is a badass spy who has all kinds of baddies pursuing her as the mission she was on becomes compromised and as she tries to flee the bad guys are on her tail! Chandler becomes entangled in a web of action, intrigue, and mystery as she tries to figure out what happened and who blew her cover! 

That is about all I can hand out with a small taste so if you want to know more then go read this book and series! 

Thoughts:

This book was one action fest from beginning to end! There is no time to breath as the character Chandler is on the constant move from place to place shooting her way out of situations! I was exhausted with reading this book as there was so much action that I had a hard time sleeping after reading this story! 😂

I wanted to go relax every time I put the book down for a little bit as there is constant action! I felt like I was in a movie with Bruce Willis and Jason Statham at 300 miles per hour! 😂😂

The character of Chandler is hard to get a fix on as she is moving way too fast and you do not have time to introduce yourself to her as she is too busy shooting bullet holes in your kindle pages! 😂

Another great book by author, J.A. Konrath and I was able to get my first taste of author, Ann Voss Peterson and looking forward to reading the rest of the series at some point especially when I want to be wrapped up in an action fun entertainment ride! :)

What Danger Lies Ahead?

A small taste of what lies within:

Brady Hartsfield (the Mercedes Killer) lies in a coma state or what everyone thinks at least as though Brady seems to be in a coma he is more aware of what goes on then anyone thinks. Bill Hodges and Holly Gibney are investigating suicides but no one is aware that it is anything but that until as time goes on they realize that Brady has mind bending capabilities and he is connected to the suicide victims! 

That is about all I can hand out with a small taste so if you want to know more then go read this book!

Thoughts:

This last book dives back deep into the heart of the Mercedes Killer along with some raw emotion with detectives Bill Hodges and Holly Gibney. I liked how in the beginning of the book King kind of gives an updated rundown of what took place in the first book - nothing major just a small rehash to give the reader a refresh on their memory which I loved because it has been four years since I read books one and two in this series so I needed a rehash of the events that brought book three about. 

King wraps the story up tight in this book and I savored every word as I knew this was the last book with the character, Bill Hodges. King takes the reader deep into a serious health issue and wraps it around the main character of Hodges - King brings the reader to the brink of emotion with this story and I found myself wanting the story not to end. The crime escapade of the character Brady makes him a true villain in every sense of the word and I am glad that I finally was able to finish this trilogy.

I Have A Secret (Sloane Monroe #3) by Cheryl Bradshaw

Who is the Murderer? 

A small taste of what lies within:

Sloane Monroe returns to her home of Tehachapi, California as a murder has happened that involves one of her old high school classmates (Doug). The suspects within the town are numerous and Sloan will need to dig deep into the heart of the town to find out who and why Doug was murdered! 

That is about all I can hand out with a small taste without giving away spoilers so if you want to know more then go read this book! 

Thoughts:

This is the third book in the series of Sloane Monroe and these books can kind of be read as stand alone as they don't end in cliff hangers where you would need to read the next book in the series however saying that sometimes it is better to read them in order as something might pop up regarding the character Sloane from maybe a previous book. 

This book had tons of suspects as the author kept everything well hidden till the very end of the book. I literally could not figure out who the killer was as it could have been any of the characters that were involved. 

The pace of the story was a little slow in the beginning but that was because of world building but once I made it past the 45% mark the story kicked up a notch and then after the 60% mark I was on a roll as the story just exploded with suspense and tension. By that time I was on the edge of my seat and stayed awake till early morning hours a couple or so nights. All in all a great book in this series and looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

Five "Thriller Killer" Stars

A small taste of what lies within:

Eve Springer has the opportunity to go to Belgium to play with the musical group the Songbirds and studying under the famous Professor Earnest Von Klein as she has been wanting to be a Songbird her whole life, but when she arrives there is a murder of one of the Songbirds. 

As she gets settled into the campus things go south as there is another murder of one of the Songbirds. Eve wonders what is happening and why are there murders when she just arrives. The murders throw suspicion toward Eve since she is a newcomer as she always seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and the police will not leave her alone as things point in her direction but when more murders start happening everyone is wondering who it is and why are they killing the Songbirds!

That is about all I can hand out with a small taste so if you are intrigued then go grab this book! 

Thoughts:

The author, John Everson pays homage to Giallo the Italian mystery thrillers and this story was one twisted, mysterious, suspenseful, heart beating ride! I love crime thrillers almost as much as I love horror and this story just kept me turning kindle pages with the speed of light as there is so much that happens within this story that there was no time to breathe!

There is tons of suspense and mystery with trying to figure out who the killer is but the author never lets it be known till the end of the book who is responsible for the murders. This book was one of the best crime thrillers I have read in awhile and I read the last half of the book within just a few short hours as I could not put it down!

Jack Rose (Jack Daniels #21) by J.A. Konrath

Suspense Mixed with Mystery!

A small taste of what lies within:

Jack is back in this installment as Harry McGlade is the guest of honor at a serial killer convention where fans dress up as their favorite killers. Jack is with Harry at the convention but things go wonky when a storm blows through and everyone has no place to go or escape. 

When murders starts happening is when things go south and it will be up to Jack and Harry to get down to the bottom of things! 

That is about all I can hand out on a small taste so if you want to know more then go read this book! 

Thoughts:

Once again as I stepped into this Konrath book I knew that I was going to be wrapped within this author's mind once again and thrown back into the heat of things with Jack.  The main characters return in this next installment along with jokes from character Harry McGlade which keeps me chuckling quite a bit. 

There is quite a bit of tension, suspense, and mystery with this story which kept me staying up late a few nights as I had a hard time putting this book down. Once I got started down the path of Jack and Harry there is no turning back! Another great book in this series of Jack Daniels and looking forward to reading more in the future.

Bite Force (Jack Daniels #20) by J.A. Konrath

Action Packed!

A small taste of what lies within:

Jack is back with Phin and their daughter Sam along with Harry as they deal with two killers that are somehow lurking around in the hospital where Jack, Phin, and Harry are located while they have their injuries looked after. They are not sure how they will go about trying to hunt down the two killers since all three of them are confined to a hospital bed but they will need to do something quick as the killers are making their rounds and all three of them might be next!

That is about all I can give on a small taste without giving away spoilers so if you want to know more then go read this book and series. 

Thoughts:

This book once again has some chuckles as Harry throws out his quips quite a bit but there is also some tense action in this story as things become heated when the baddies in this book start causing some upheaval. Quite a bit of the book is fast paced and I kept turning my kindle pages at the speed of light to find out what was going to happen next!

As the story flows along with more and more action, the book became hard to put down the more I kept reading. There were quite a few twists and turns in this one as you never quite knew who the baddies were till way later in the story so there was quite a bit of suspense and mystery throughout most of the story with wondering "who" the baddies were as the author kept that secret well hidden throughout the story. 

Another great book in this series and planning on moving ahead with the next book soon.

Old Fashioned (Jack Daniels #19) by J. A. Konrath

Five "Thrills and Chills" Stars

Action Galore!

A small taste of what lies within:

Jack along with her husband, Phin and their daughter, Sam have just settled into a new home and hoping that they can relax from all the violence that invaded their lives for so many years. They just want to be "normal" people with normal problems and not have to worry about looking over their shoulders wondering when the next criminal is going to hunt them down. 

But things don't always go as planned and when Jack and her family meet their neighbor Mr. Wintergarten something just doesn't set well with Jack and Phin. They are not sure what has their psyches rattled but the old man neighbor sets off their alarm meters for some reason. 

When Mr. Wintergarten seems to take a liking to Sam and starts bringing over chocolate chip cookies, Jack and Phin feel that there is something more then just the old man being a nice neighbor, but what is the old man hiding and is it something they need to be worried about? 

That is all I can give out with a small taste so if you want to know more then go read this book and series. 

Thoughts:

This was a great story and it kept me pinned to my chair as I had a hard time putting this book down! The story slowly works its way up into suspense and then Konrath slowly lowers the boom as the story jumps into turbo mode when things go crazy and everything hits the fan! 

As always there is some funny quips thrown in to the story as Konrath brings back Harry McGlade and the laughs start rolling. I was chuckling a lot through this one as Harry being Harry was throwing out the jokes left and right. It helps soften the blow of what the story dances around in this book which I won't go into as it would be a spoiler so you will have to read it to find out for yourself. 

Another great book by this author and looking forward to reading the next book in the series which is Bite Force.

Five "Ripper Roaring Blood" Stars

Suspense with Terror!

A small taste of what lies within:

John Decker is back in this installment with trying to track down Jack the Ripper who was released from his resting place and resurrected to the point where he goes on a killing spree almost as if time has been reversed from when Jack the Ripper roamed the streets of London. 

John along with his sidekick Mina and Colum who is sort of his new boss are on the hunt for the murderer as they track him through the street of London in the wake of murders of young women. They will need to do everything in their power to stop him before he leaves tons of bodies lying all over the city!

Thoughts:

I really enjoyed this story as right away the author pulls you into his world with some action! I was surprised that there was not a buildup of suspense first but I wasn't complaining as I love stories where the author grabs you right away taking you on a crazy action spin right out the gate! 

This book goes deep into the heart of London as the author brings alive the character Jack the Ripper and sends him on a bloody swath through the streets of London once again and John Decker and his friends must track him down bringing an end to the Ripper's murdering reign! 

I felt that the book was just the right pace and I had a hard time putting the book down after the 60% mark as so much happens after the halfway mark that I found myself staying up half the night to finish the book as there was so much action with suspense that there was no way I was going to go to sleep till I see how it all turned out!

Fast Paced Action!

Tom Mankowski, a Chicago Homicide cop has an interesting number tattoo on the bottom of his foot. He has always wondered about why he has it but has never delved into the background of how he got it. When a murder victim pops up in his jurisdiction Mankowski learns that the victim also has a tattoo number on their foot. 

Tom Mankowski goes down a rabbit hole of suspense and intrigue as he learns there are more people out there with those number tattoos on their feet. What he learns is way beyond anything he has ever imagined and it leads him down a mysterious path of twisted corruption!

Thoughts:

I wasn't sure where this story was taking me but it being written by Konrath I had a feeling it was going to be interesting and I was right! The story weaves around into some historic aspects along with fast paced action, intrigue and high suspense. 

I loved all the characters in this book and once again Konrath threw in some funny quips that lighten the mood of the story. This story unfolds as a techo-thriller and as always with Konrath's writing style he draws the reader deep into the story capturing the essence of the mystery of what is taking place. Another great book by this author!

Crime Tension & Suspense!

Detective Katie Maguire has more than she can handle when a case lands in her lap of dead bodies that seem to keep piling up within her jurisdiction. Katie soon learns though that the bodies are part of ritualistic killings and she will need to do everything in her power to track down the killer before she has more bodies to deal with!

Thoughts:

This story just slowly grabs you right from the beginning as Masterton builds up the suspense and the crimes slowly but pulls the reader straight into the storyline with visual backdrops and some bloody gory descriptions of the victims. 

There is quite bit of horror mixed with crime in this story and the book moves along at a fast pace. I loved the characters in this story and the main character, Katie is a take charge kind of character that gets things done her way. Looking forward to continuing on with the series at some point in time to see what happens next for Detective Maguire.

The town of Whitebranch has been hit with bodies of women turning up dead with puzzle game pieces found on their bodies as it seems a serial killer is stalking the town. As detectives race against time to track down the killer they are hoping that they are able to catch him before they have more bodies piling up!

Thoughts:

This book just blew me away as I love a great detective/police procedural story and each chapter was for a character in the story which centers around the detectives trying to solve the case and there are also chapters of the killer with his thoughts as well.  

Everything meshed together perfectly and I loved the characters as well. I felt that the author just grabbed me and threw me into the story as I could feel everything that the detectives did as they were trying to track down the killer. The visuals of what was unfolding in the story was just laid out as I could see it all in front of me like it was on a movie screen. 

This was my first time reading this author and it won't be my last as I loved this book which will be going on my favorites shelf.

Five "Terror Thriller" Stars

Crime Mixed With Horror!

A small taste of what lies within:

Holly Gibney is on the trail of a kidnapped girl named Bonnie. Her mother Penny Dahl pleads with Holly to take the case of finding her daughter as she just wants her daughter found safe and sound as the police seem to be doing nothing to look for her daughter so Holly finally decides to take the case. 

Holly slowly works her way through with tracking down leads which almost takes her down a rabbit hole as she pulls in some resources and friends to help her out as she tries to find out what happened to Bonnie but as time goes on the mystery deepens as she finds out there have been more disappearances in the same area. What Holly soon realizes is someone is doing something within the town and she has a feeling that all the disappearances are tied together, but finding the link is going to take some work and she hopes to find Bonnie alive before it is too late!

Thoughts:

The core of this story was exceptionally good - I love the horror that was weaved into the crime aspects of the story as King just slowly added horror bits to the story lacing it with his special touch. The suspense and build up of what was happening took a little time to get going almost like a slow burn but there were so many other things to focus on as the story gained speed. 

King dropped a few Easter eggs within the story with connections to some of his books which was cool. He name dropped some movies that I have seen along with name dropping an author I have read. Just different things like that which were slowly added to the story which was almost like adding seasonal herbs to a dinner with a dash of wine! 

Now onto some other thoughts with this book and I am not dragging the book or the author threw the pits of hell as I have seen some reviews so far for this book that does just that so all I am going to say is this on that subject matter. 

This book was set during the time of the pandemic and yes there is quite a bit of everything that took place during that time in this book but truly this book would be considered "historical" fiction as that is basically what is laid out in here. 

There are lots of fiction books out there set in times of historical upheaval whether it be wars or conflicts throughout a country or countries and this book is no different. Yes for some people it is hard to read about but it did happen - history has already been set - no one can go back in time to change the past. I watched an interview with King about this book and he said that the book is like a time capsule meaning for future generations that read the book they will know about what happened during the time of the pandemic.  

So after laying out my thoughts on all that with the pandemic - this story was classic King - he takes the reader deep into a crime/mystery story with the character Holly who has some detective skills that she hones as the story progresses. The puzzle pieces start really interlocking past the 50% mark of the book and the book goes into overdrive past the 70% mark as things become known within the storyline. 

All in all it was a great story with all the crime and horror weaved together that kept me glued to my seat as the more the pace picked up the less I wanted to put it down! This is why King is the Master of Horror! He knows how to take you places that you don't want to go and drops you into a viper pit for no way out - well maybe he will thrown down a rope! 😀

Twists and Turns Mystery!

A small taste of what lies within:

Chloe Davis went through some trauma when she was 12 years old as her father was sent to prison for the murder of six girls that had gone missing. Now 20 years later, Chloe is a psychologist and she is getting ready to be married to Daniel.

Things are happening once again in her town of Baton Rouge as girls go missing and Chloe's past comes racing back with a vengeance as she realizes that a killer is stalking the streets which throws Chloe back into turmoil as she tries to figure out who has invaded her town and life!

Thoughts:

This was my first time reading this author and I like a good crime/mystery thriller. This one delivers with lots of twists and turns. The mystery deepens as things escalate within the story and I really liked the characters in this book. 

I had a few sleepless nights with this book as I kept wanting to see what would happen next. Looking forward to reading more books by this author.

Suspense Shocker!

A very small taste of what lies within:

There is a man in jail that something is seriously wrong with him and no one knows what to do with him so Sherlock Holmes is called in to solve the mystery, but there is a twist that will even stump Sherlock Holmes and have him wondering.

Thoughts:

This was a very short romp into the mind of author, David Kempf as this story wraps around a twisted version of Sherlock Holmes and something that he discovers. Something a little different with this story as there is mystery and suspense along with a tiny bit of a science fiction vibe. Another great short story by this author.

Suspenseful!

A small taste of what lies within:

Sloane Monroe is back in this second installment with maybe finally getting close to her sister's killer who was never caught and who disappeared years ago called the Sinnerman. The Sinnerman is back and bodies are starting to turn up along with "cat and mouse" notes to Sloane as he becomes brave enough to enter her realm. 

As Sloane tries to keep pace with the killer she will have to do everything she can to bring him to justice before he lays waste to bodies all over her city. Does Sloan catch the Sinnerman? 

No spoilers here as you will need to read the book and this series!

Thoughts:

As always with books by this author - the story is fast paced and keeps me on the edge of my seat. I ended up reading almost 25% in one sitting as I just become caught up in the writing style of the author and cannot seem to lay the book down! 

I love all the characters in this series as everyone seems so real as I become caught up in the storyline. The villain the Sinnerman is one scary baddie as parts of the book has his thoughts thrown in as well as he plays this mind game with Sloane. 

All in all this was a great sequel to the first book and I will be looking forward to continuing on with the series in the future.

Spindel by Mia Dalia

Five "Nail Biting Tension " Stars

Suspenseful!

A very small taste of what lies within:

Johnny Walker has a sneaky suspicion that the town banker, Mr. Spindel could possibly be a serial killer as some girls have gone missing and though nothing is actually pointing toward the town banker, Johnny just has a "feeling" that the banker is somehow involved. Though proving it will be another matter!

That is about all I can give on a very small taste as this story is super short so if you are intrigued then go read this book!

Thoughts:

This was my first time reading this author and I was impressed by how quick I was pulled into the storyline. There are two storylines to follow as well which flowed quite well between both sets of POV's. One pov from Johnny' view and then there is a pov from one of the missing girls. 

Author, Mia Dalia took me on a quick short romp into psychological terror that kept me glued to my kindle in a state of suspense! Looking forward to reading more books by this author as she has couple or so more books out there to delve into!

Michael Turcotte is back along with Detective Samantha Reilly who has become Michael's caretaker in this installment. Michael has more to deal with in this story as his old school chum that killed a boy bully in the last book has resurfaced in this story with a whole new set of problems. 

There is a gang that has taken over the streets and they have zoned in on Michael as they find out what he is capable of and want to use him for their own means, but Detective Reilly will have to do all she can to keep anything from happening to Michael!

That is about all I can give on a small taste so if you want to know more then go read this series!

Thoughts:

This book just stayed with the pace of the first book and kept the suspense/intense thrills wrapped tight within this story as well. 

I love the crime detective concept tightly bound together with the supernatural as it is so easy to fall right into the storyline and the smooth writing style of the author just keeps me entranced with all what is happening within the storyline. Looking forward to wrapping up the trilogy and see what will happen in the last book.

Three "Gun-Nut" Stars!

Psycho Will Travel!

A small taste of what lies within:

Jack Daniels is back but under a different name (Jill Johnson) as things happened in the last book "White Russian" that threw everyone for loop and Jack along with her husband Phineas had to go off the grid and had to acquire a different name. Jack is also confined to a wheelchair and is having some life struggles as she tries to get her head together and keep her marriage intact. 

An unseen force is headed her way though as a psycho is on the loose and they both are on a path where they will collide to the point where Jack will have to figure out how to survive against a gun-toting crazy nut that just wants to kill people!

That is about all I can give on a small taste so if you want to know more then you need to read this series. The series is not stand alone - the books must be read in order as things happen in the previous books to the main characters which rolls over into the next book. 

Thoughts:

Normally I would have given this book four or five stars but this book reads more like a guns manual with gun laws that I just could not get that rating up to what I normally give out for this series. There are hardly any chuckles found within this book either as the character Harry McGlade is almost absent from this story and the rest of the characters including Jack are almost in a depression state. 

It was a struggle to read this book as I wanted to escape reality with some humor and just disappear into the world of Jack Daniels but almost the whole book is a heavy dose of "gloom and doom" about what happens within the story. 

There was some action within but normally there are some funny quips being tossed out by Harry as he keeps this series lively but with him being mostly absent from this story that made this book just downright depressing and I was happy to be done with it finally. I even read other books as I kept laying this one down and that is why it has taken me near two months to read this book as I just kept wanting to read something less depressing. This book also was a long drawn out 432 pages which was a lot of pages keeping me wrapped within a depressed state of mind. About a hundred less pages would have been a whole lot better. 

The author does state in the book that he went in a different direction with the book being wrapped around guns so he did dish out a warning and I knew that going into it but what I didn't know was that the book was saturated with depression of what the character Jack was going through with her problems and the book made me feel depressed. 

I am getting ready to step into the next book in the series which is Chaser and it is supposed to be back in the regular groove of the series along with Harry being back more in this book so I am looking forward to more humor/chuckles and less bleakness/despair.

Five "Supernatural Suspense" Stars

Creature Feature Rampage!

A small taste of what lies within:

John Decker is back with tracking down another mysterious creature that is laying waste to some townspeople out in the wilds of Alaska. John is hired by a town council woman (Mina) as she has heard that John hunts supernatural creatures as she thinks something is hunting her people and she needs to put a stop to it. 

John accepts the challenge of hunting down the creature even under protest from the town sheriff as the sheriff is not a believer in anything supernatural and just thinks there is a killer on the loose, but there is a rude awakening for everyone involved as "something" does exist and it is on a rampage that will decimate the town if John Decker does not take care of the situation ASAP!  

Thoughts:

I have really been enjoying reading this series as there is tons of action with lots of creature features running amok in these books. The writing style of this author is smooth and I just seem to fall into the stories with ease. 

The pace is quick as it seems that something happens right away in the story and then someone has to reach out to Decker to bring him on board. Once Decker arrives then there is a slow build up of suspense with him trying to figure out how to approach the situation but in the meantime there is something happening with the creature as well so there is constant action and suspense all at the same time. This book is no exception as tons of things are constantly happening in this story that kept me on my toes and the story just flows along with some suspense and tension. 

Another reason I love this series so much is that it is a mix between supernatural horror mixed within a crime thriller as I read quite a bit out of both genres so it makes for a fun read to have a book that has both genres within. Looking forward to reading the third book in this series soon.
