OGRE by Brian G. Berry

🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸

Five "Gore and More Ogre" Blood Splatter!

Roaring & Ripping Frenzy!

A taste of what lies within:

Camp Starlight is ready for business and a busload of kids is heading there ready for some summer fun along with camp counselors.

In steps Sheriff Roy Caudel  - he finds an elderly couple ripped to shreds not too far from Camp Starlight, so the Sheriff goes to the camp to warn everyone to shut the camp down if at all possible as no one knows exactly what killed the people so the Sheriff wants to make sure everyone is safe.

The counselors just think that it is a harmless bear attack so they ignore the warning of the Sheriff and proceed as planned as they wait for the kids to arrive. Though they should have listened to the Sheriff because there is something "watching and waiting" in the woods and it is hungry for warm bodies and it is no "bear"!

Thoughts:

Wow! This book was one romping-bloody-frenzy of ripping gore fun! I started reading this book and just could not put it down! Literally read this book in 48 hours as the pace of the story picked up when the crap hit the fan!

Something happens right away in the story and from that point on I was hooked as the author, Brian G. Berry sank his meat hooks in me and dragged me along into the woods with plopping me straight down into the gory mess of Camp Starlight!

Do you think I am kidding?!  Oh you are in for a surprise! Go read this book and you will see there is no escape from the twisted mind of this author!

Another awesome book by author, Brian G. Berry - the upcoming extreme horror author that has tons of bloody gore to share with his readers! This book is worthy of my gore suit as it was needed for this book right away!

Highly Recommend!

The Night They Got Out by Patrick James Ryan

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Carnage Creatures" Stars

Bloody Monster Mayhem!

A taste of what lies within:

Don Girard (former police chief) has been gone from the public eye for a long time as he was held in captivity since all the creature carnage that took place in his town five years before.

This time the same people that were responsible for the last escape are back at it again with more creature experiments and once again they are not able to contain the creatures as they escape too thought with these creatures they have a higher level of intelligence that will make capturing them almost impossible!

The military complex that is suppose to be keeping the experiments under wraps decide to enlist the help of Don Girard along with some other people in the hopes of recapturing the creatures but as with any well laid plans nothing is foolproof. Before it is all said and done there is going to be blood and carnage with lots of bodies!

Thoughts:

Another awesome book by this author! The long awaited sequel has arrived to the first book of The Night It Got Out! There was tons of bloody carnage and monster mayhem which was worthy of my gore suit!

A fast paced book that kept me on the edge of my seat as the terror filled suspense kept my insomnia fueled a few nights! The creature action was not constant but the pace was a steady flow of not knowing what was going to happen next!

If want gore, blood, and creature feature then you need to read this book. I would suggest reading the first book "The Night It Got Out" so you know more about the characters, then read this one right on the heels of the first book.

Highly Recommend!

Wax Part 5 by Amy Cross

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Intriguing" Stars

Harlham Hall Horrors!

I am not going to do a taste on this book as there are quite a bit of spoilers throughout so just going to share my thoughts. I will say this though - each book ends on a cliff hanger which made me want to jump into the next book to see how it continued to play out.

Thoughts:

The mystery of Harlham Hall comes more to light in this book and a lot of questions are answered finally. The characters Rachel and Brad along with the mother, Evelyn and her husband, Bernard finally mesh together but there are tons of twists and turns in this book as the pace quickened which kept me up a few hours as I just didn't want to put it down!

I have already started reading the last book of the series which is Wax Part 6 as I want to see how the series concludes and hopefully answer the last of my questions.

The Horror Collection: Nightmare Edition by Kevin J. Kennedy, a/k/a KJK Publishing

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Twisted Frightening" Stars!

A taste of what lies within:

There are 18 stories weaved into the pages of this anthology and I am always happy when I see a new release by KJK Publishing as I know there are going to be some more horror authors to explore along with revisiting ones I have read from the past.  Though I liked all the stories I have to say I pulled some favorites out of this collection and they are listed below.

Favorite stories from this collection are as follows with a tiny cryptic note:

It Walks About the Woods by Tom Deady:  "Folklore legend could be real."

A Broken Man by Steve Stred: "Be careful what you trade away as there could be consequences."

Old Soul by R.J. Roles: "Experiencing death one too many times."

When Call the Deep by Mike Duke: "What really resides in the deep blue sea?"

The Old Man at the Gatehouse by Simon Clark: "Becoming a ghost is not what it is cracked up to be."

Soul Prism by Ruthann Jagge: "Glasses invention goes south."

Run Rabbit Run by Andrew Lennon: "If someone is dead make sure they are dead."

I Am the Storm by Michael Bray: "Desperate to see loved ones becomes a painful mind trip."

Taste for Adventure by Matthew A. Clarke: "Getting lost in the back country turns dire."

Beast by Kyle M. Scott: "Even furry beasts get to have some fun."

The Graveyard by Lee Mountford: "Becoming a ghost wouldn't be too bad or would it?"

Thoughts:

Another great collection filled with all kind of twisted nightmares from KJK Publishing! I probably say this every time I do a review for these books that KJK Publishing puts out and I will say it again - these books are great as I am able to get a taste of the authors that are gathered in each book and it makes me want to pursue their other work.

I have read many anthologies in my life, but interesting enough I almost own all of the collections put out by KJK Publishing as I really like and love all the authors that are intertwined in these books.

If you have not stepped into these anthologies then you need to go check them out as there are quite a few books now in the horror collection series - 12 to be exact.

A Gift of Death by Daniel J. Volpe

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Vicious Vampire" Stars

Twisted Ride Into A Vampire Lair!

A taste of what lies within:

Cameron Snyder has a bad life and it seems that everything is spiraling out of control but the only thing that keeps him going is wanting to see the heavy metal band, A Gift of Death, in person and he will do anything to see them. When Cameron follows the band after a concert he spies on them finding out that they are not all what they seem and it makes him want to actually hook up with them and leave his life behind.

The metal band have unique tastes as they lure certain concert goers into their van for a night of blood and mayhem as they need to feed, but what they don't know is that there are vampire hunters on their trail (the Visser brothers) and when the Vissers' catch up to them it will be survival of the fittest!

That is about all I can give on a taste as if you want to know more you will need to read the book!

Thoughts:

This is my first time reading this author and I can say that I was quite impressed with not only the story but the writing style. This book was soaked in blood and lots of graphic detailed carnage of the vampires feasting on their human prey! Lots of erotic horror mixed in with all the vampire action as well.

I definitely needed my gore suit for this book as there was so much splatter that it is wonder my kindle wasn't leaking blood and gore bits! The vamp action was fast paced and once things started happening with Cameron, the metal band, and the vampire hunters with all of them converging in the storyline this book exploded with action which kept me awake as I was wanting to see what would happen next!

Looking forward to stepping into more of this author's work as he has quite a few books out there to check out.

Wax Part 4 by Amy Cross

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Mysterious Past" Stars

Harlham Hall mystery deepens!

I am not going to do a taste within on this story - just some thoughts as there are too many spoilers to give out a taste.

Thoughts:

The story goes into explicit details of the past with the characters of Bernard and Evelyn of things that happened in Harlham Hall which answers some questions that I had with the first three books.

There are detailed accounts of what happened at Harlham Hall and why there is quite a bit of mystery surrounding the place.

Things were revealed that kept me totally engrossed with this book and I read most of this book within a few hours as the pace picked up. Looking forward to reading the last two books in the series to find out how it all ends.

The Redwood Asylum by L.A. Detwiler

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Suspenseful Sinister" Stars

Asylum Terror!

A taste of what lies within:

Jessica begins a new job at Redwood Asylum and is immediately drawn into a mystery that weaves its way into her very soul. One of the patients 5B a/k/a Robert seems to taking a liking to her though and draws her cryptic pictures while he gives her mysterious statements of the asylum.

No one seems to want to share information with Jessica about the asylum or the mysteries surrounding it and the more she tries to find out what is really going on within the place the more the staff pushes her away to the point where they more or less demote her to the bottom floors of the asylum as they seem to not want her to find out what is happening within the asylum. Also it seems that the asylum is haunted and none of the staff want to address that either - they just laugh it off about the place having ghosts.

Things are not what they seem and when the staff starts moving patients around is when Jessica realizes that something is just not right, but to find out more she will need to reserve her strength and her mind to learn all she can about Redwood before something bad happens!

That is about all I can give on a taste without giving away spoilers so if you want to know more than you will need to read the book!

Thoughts:

This is my second book by this author and once again I am drawn into a story filled with mystery and intrigue along with lots of spooky atmosphere. The writing style of this author just flows along with fast paced intrigue as the more I became involved in the story the more I wanted to keep reading to find out what would happen next.

I really liked the character Jessica and felt for her being in a new place with no where to turn for answers when things began to turn more serious. This book was so full of mystery and suspense that I didn't know what was going to happen next or what the character Jessica would be encountering within the story.

Another great book by this author and I have a couple or so more books on my kindle of her work. Looking forward to stepping into more of her books in the future. If you want a book that is suspenseful and mysterious then go check out this book.

The Odds by Jeff Strand

πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€

Five "Game of Chance Horror" Skulls

Tightening Tension!

A taste of what lies within:

Ethan is a big time gambler but when he spends more than he should have at the slot machines he is given an opportunity to win back his losses - though there is a price for it. Ethan doesn't dare tell his wife Jenny what he has done or he will be in the doghouse forever, so he tries to jump around her questions with lies.

In steps Rick - who is the somebody that can possibly make Ethan's dreams come true with putting money in his pocket and all Ethan has to do is play a game, but not just any game and nothing that has to do with slot machines, but a game that is totally different which can lead to pain.

As much as Ethan wants money to line his pockets he will have to consider the consequences of staying in the game to keep earning money or die trying - whichever comes first!

What is the game? What does Ethan have to do to win the game? How much money will Ethan win?

No spoilers here as you will need to read the book!

Thoughts:

I really enjoyed this book and right away I was pulled into the storyline as the book kicks off with some intrigue. The more I read the story the deeper I was pulled into the book. There is tons of tension and anxiety associated with this storyline as I wanted to keep reading but also wanted to hide behind my fingers to peek out as I wasn't sure what was going to happen next!

I felt sorry for the character, Ethan as he has to go through some major stuff to keep playing the game and I wanted to see something bad happen to the character Rick as he was a pain in the arse most of the time through the book.

As time goes on though and more stuff happens within the book I just could not put the book down as the story just kept escalating to the point I had read almost 30% in one sitting without moving as the book went into supersonic overdrive!

Another great book by author, Jeff Strand! If you want something that will keep you awake all night with lots of tense moments with breath hitching intrigue then go grab this book as I guarantee you will be up all night reading this story!

Behind the Horror: True Stories That Inspired Horror Movies by Lee Mellor

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Intriguing Information" Stars

This was a great true crime book!

I am not going to do a taste like normal but I will give out thoughts.

Thoughts:

This book was fascinating in that some horror movies that you watch were made from crimes that had happened in the past. Which I never knew that information about horror movies as I always thought they were just creations to scare the pants off of movie-goers! :)

Some of the movies you will read about are Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Exorcist, Jaws, The Amityville Horror, Poltergeist, The Silence of the Lambs, and Scream just to name a few as there are more movies within this book as well. The crimes that took place that are behind the movies are Ed Gein, Ted Bundy, the Green River Killer, Ed Kemper, and the Gainesville Ripper, just to name a few as there are quite a few stories within this book as the author will give you the movie and the crime behind it. The author also added pictures within too of the movies and the crimes.

I found this book to be very interesting and I really like the writing style of the author too as the author goes into great detail of the movie and the crime and/or crimes behind it. I found the details to be just enough without getting bored or drawn out. Not once did I get bored with this book and the author has crimes within that I have never heard of before that were behind certain horror movies.

Come Closer by Sara Gran

 πŸŒŸπŸŒŸπŸŒŸπŸŒŸπŸŒŸ

Five "Frightening Possession" Stars

Dark Demonic Twist!

A taste of what lies within:

Amanda starts doing things that make her wonder if she is crazy to the point where her husband Ed is worried about her, but she not only does things at home she also does weird stuff at the office and she is starting to hear voices in her head. Amanda is not sure what is wrong with her as she ends up missing hours at a time and doesn't remember where she has been or what she has done - time becomes meaningless. Never does she realize that maybe her problem is because she is demon possessed and when she does find out it could be too late.

That is about all I can give without giving away spoilers so if that makes you curious then go read this book.

Thoughts:

This was my first time reading this author and the way this author told about the possession was a different type of way than a slow buildup of the story. The author grabs the reader and slams them into the storyline leaving your head spinning (something close to the Exorcist spin) as you wonder how the character is going to come out of this story unscathed.

Very impressed with the writing style of the author too as I was drawn right away into the storyline and before I knew it I was almost 20% into the book as I just could not put the book down!

I even read the book during dinner time last night as I just could not break away from the storyline long enough to even eat dinner so I just decided to read and eat as the story picked up in intensity and I just found myself wrapped within its pages!

Now I will be hunting down other works by this author as this book just blew my socks off and kept them off during the whole story!

Wax Part 3 by Amy Cross

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Suspenseful Spooky" Stars

Twisted Mystery!

A taste of what lies within:

Rachel and Brad are still trying to figure out what is happening within Harlham Hall as Rachel tries to spend more time with Evelyn to learn more about her life. Bernard is still keeping secrets and will not let too much be revealed of the house nor will he let them wander around too much within the house. Bernard becomes agitated with any time of exploration but then seems quite talkative about other things within the house. Evelyn still does not want to share details about why she abandoned Rachel when she was young as she is keeping everything under wraps.

That is about all I can give on a taste as these books are short serials so not much can be revealed because of spoilers.

What is Bernard hiding? Why does he not want them exploring the house?  Why won't Evelyn reveal what really happened that night she left Rachel?

No spoilers here as you will need to read this series to learn more of what is happening within Harlham Hall.

Thoughts:

These books keep getting better and better as each one reveals just a tiny bit more into the storyline without revealing too much of what is really going on and the author, Amy Cross keeps the suspense wrapped tight within the book making you want to keep going to learn what is happening.

Another suspenseful and intriguing book within this series. The author knows how to build up the mystery of the story and keep the reader entrapped within the book. Looking forward to reading the next book in this series which is Wax Part 4 and learning more about what happens within Harlham Hall.

The House Next Door by Darcy Coates

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Chills and Shivers" Stars

Spooky Haunting!

A taste of what lies within:

This is no cozy ghost story as author Darcy Coates plops the reader into the Marwick House where no one can seem to live in the house for a very long time. There is one powerful ghost that refuses to let anyone share the house with her and she will do anything to kick them out.

Until a new neighbor, Anna moves in that is down and out with her life as she wants to try to start over in this house. Her neighbor, Jo, has seen families come and go as long as she has lived next door. She becomes friends with Anna and tries to help Anna with living in the house with the ghost. But the ghost has other plans and no matter what they do, the ghost does not want to leave!

Thoughts:

Darcy Coates once again weaves the story around the reader to the point that you feel all the emotions the characters feel as they deal with this ghost and all the antics she stirs up to make everyone want to just run out the door.

The book slowly builds up the tension and anxiety from the beginning taking you straight into the depths of Marwick House not letting you go till you reach the end and keeping you deep into the haunting of the house.
