Four "Horrifying Reaper" Stars

Death Comes Knocking!

A small taste of what lies within:

Martin Lorensen is a counselor that looks after teenagers but he ends up escaping from two major tragedies that killed quite a few people. He had an opportunity to be in both places but somehow just happened to miss death's calling card both times.

When two federal agents seek him out about what took place with the tragedies they both realize that Martin was lucky to maybe escape death both times. Lucky or just plain weird - they try to figure out exactly what happened on how Martin just so happened to not be in those places when the deaths occurred, but what they learn from Martin is beyond creepy!

That is about all I can hand out with a small taste so if you want to know more then go read this book!

Thoughts:

It has been awhile since I read a Joe Hill story but this short story looked good and I flew through the story fast as so much happens within the short 29 pages that it packs a punch. I cannot give away too much on this story so I will stop there as it has lots of spooky vibes and it almost gave me a Final Destination vibe. If you read the book you will know what I mean. So go read it! :)

Looking forward to reading more of Joe Hill as though he has his own style it takes you deep into the horror nightmares that run in the family!

A Haunting on the Hill by Elizabeth Hand

Five "Spine-Tingling Spooky" Stars

Suspenseful & Creepy!

A small taste of what lies within:

Holly Sherwin along with her girlfriend Nisa decide to rent Hill House for a few weeks so they can practice their theater play along with a few of their stage crew as Holly thinks Hill House would be the perfect place to practice in the rambling old Gothic house.

However as much as they love being there working on their play - the house has other plans for each one of them which if they had known what was in store for them then Holly would have never rented the house!

That is about all I can give out with a small taste so if you want to know more then go read this book!

Thoughts:

This story grabbed my attention right away as I just finished The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson so jumping right into this book made sense to me but the only flip side is that all the characters are different and so is the plot of the story. The only thing still the same is the house itself which in this book I found to be more scarier and creepier than the original story.

I liked all the characters in this book except for Nisa as she kind of drove me nutso - lol but other than her character trait I liked everyone else. The pace of the story moves at a good speed and I really like the writing style of Elizabeth Hand as I read another book by her that I loved.

The pace of the story picks up speed and the last 30% of the book I read in just a few hours as stuff hits the fan and I couldn't put the book down till I found out what all happened! I have been wanting to read this book for awhile now so I am happy that I grabbed it awhile back when it was on sale.  Looking forward to reading more books by this author in the future.

Who's There? (Welcome Home #2) by Samara Cove

Five "Chiller Thriller" Stars

Shocking Suspense!

A small taste of what lies within:

Timeline: 6 years later (after first story)

Sarah Harrelson still owns the house in Lake Tahoe as she had decided not to sell it even though there was a tragedy that took place in the house that claimed her husband's life. Sarah's life is about to turn upside down again when she finds out that she will need to return to Lake Tahoe as a dead body has turned up in her house.

Sarah leaves her children with her best friend Hollie in West Virginia and realizes that she has to return to the Lake Tahoe house to settle the matter of who died in her house that has been abandoned for six years. But things are not all "cut and dried" as she finds out that her past and future are tied to that house. Secrets and scandals lie within her family history and relatives that she thought were long dead are alive and well with agendas of their own!

That is about all I can hand out with a small taste without giving away spoilers so if you want to know more then go read this book and series!

Thoughts:

The second book in the Welcome Home series was just as suspenseful and intriguing as the first book! The author slowly draws out the suspense and builds everything up to a crescendo which eventually the author lowers the boom as things go topsy-turvy with tons of twists and turns in the story!

There were so many twists in this book that I thought I was playing the game Twister as almost every other chapter something shifts in the story which escalated my reading experience and kept me glued to my kindle! I did not want to put this book down as I didn't know what was going to happen next.

Looking forward to the third and final book in this series to find out what the author, Samara Cove has in store for me next!

Note: These books are not stand alone - they must be read in order to understand what takes place in the story.
