From Below by Darcy Coates

Five "Deep Sea Spooky" Stars

Breath-Hitching Tension!

A small taste of what lies within:

The Arcadia which has been missing since the 1920's has been located by a diving crew (Cove, Vanna, Roy, Hestie, Aiden, Sean, and Devereaux) and they are wanting to go to explore the ship as no one knows much about what could have happened to the ship or what happened to the ship crew so they want to go check it out and record their diving footage of the ship.

Though what the diving crew find when they finally get to the ship wreckage is beyond their imagination and it will be everything they can do to make sure that they are able to get the footage they need without losing their lives!

What do the crew find within the wreckage? Do they get the video footage they need? Do the crew make it out of the wreckage?

No spoilers here as you will just need to read the book!

Thoughts:

I have read quite a few books by author, Darcy Coates, but I think this book is one of her best books yet! The story just grabbed me right away and took me on a fast pace into the deep sea as the tension of the book took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions from breath-hitching moments of anxiety to throat closing claustrophobic atmospheric intensity as I barreled my way through the storyline!

Author, Darcy Coates is known for writing her books with atmospheric emotions but this book seemed to be hundred times more with atmosphere than any other books she has out there as I literally had to lay the book down a few times to catch my breath as I felt that I was having anxiety attacks while reading this book. I loved all the characters as they just seemed so real and the story just drew me in so much that I felt I was right there with them experiencing the same emotions that they were going through themselves. An awesome story by this author and it will be going on my favorites shelf and a book I won't forget anytime soon!

Thanksgiving Day Massacre by Brian G. Berry

🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸

Five "Maniac Massacre" Blood Drops

Splatter Hits The Fan!

A small taste of what lies within:

The small town of White Hall thinks that it is safe from "stranger danger", but they get a nasty surprise when a man (Travis) wanders into their mist wearing a turkey mask and carrying a large knife. No one is safe from Travis as he carves a bloody trail through the town on Thanksgiving day.

Sheriff Harper and his deputies are put on alert when they find out that their citizens are being attacked by this man and they try to go after him themselves. The Sheriff even gets help from another Sheriff and his deputies from a small town not too far from White Hall as Travis had killed a bunch of towns people there as well.

The law enforcement men are not ready though to deal with what they see when they arrive at the houses of their friends and neighbors as what they see lying before them will be forever etched into their brains as Travis has gone on a spree of blood, gore, and terror!

Who is this man Travis? Where did he come from? Why is he laying waste to the townspeople? What is his motive? Does anyone come out alive? No spoilers here as you will need to read the book!

Thoughts:

This was my second reread of this story and once again I was thrown back into the bloodbath of wading through this author's mind! This book has so much blood and gore lying within the pages that it is a wonder my kindle wasn't leaking red goo - actually dripping red goo would be a better phrase! lol

I will give you an idea of how bloody this book is: take Jason from Friday the 13th, Michael Myers from Halloween, Ghost Face from Scream, and Jigsaw from Saw then put all of them together in one room with the towns people in this story and that is what you would have if you stepped into this book!

This book is a tribute to those 80's slasher movies and if this book was a movie the whole movie screen would be swimming red! So if you want some blood and gore for your Thanksgiving dinner then look no further than this book. Word of warning: it is best to bring your gore suit - actually you might need four to five gore suits. So if you are in the mood of wading through blood and gore then go buy this book and step into the mind of Brian G. Berry!

Undertaker's Moon by Ronald Kelly

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Howling & Ripping" Stars

Snarling Suspense!

A small taste of what lies within:

Old Hickory, Tennessee becomes the backdrop for this story as it is an old mill town. Things seem peaceful until the O'Shea family move into town along with Squire McManus and they take over the funeral home.

As they become involved in the town, deaths start happening to the point of bodies being ripped apart. No one wants to believe one of the local boys that saw his friend being attacked by some type of beast.

No one seems to think anything about the mystery of how the beast seemed to appear after the family arrived. Soon though it becomes apparent that they are somehow involved and when the family feel threatened they will not go down without a fight as when their secret is revealed is when the crap hits the fan!

Thoughts:

Southern gothic horror along with a touch of the Irish is what author, Ronald Kelly stirs up in this book and the atmosphere of the story just grabs a hold of you from the first page taking you on a "snarling" ride all the way to the end of the book! Lots of fur and fangs along with a small town homey feel makes this book a very fun read! This was my second reread of the book and I enjoyed it immensely the second time around!

Usher's Passing by Robert McCammon

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Thumping Pumpkin Man" Stars

Wild and Spooky!

A small taste of what lies within:

Rix Usher is informed that his father is not well and that he needs to come home to Usherland so that all the family is gathered before his father passes on. Rix doesn't really want to go home as he doesn't want anything to do with his father or his family as they are crazy loonies and Rix has been writing horror books under a pen name as he didn't want any problems to arise from his family.

Rix does decide to head home though as he feels that he needs to wrap up loose ends, but things go slowly nutso for him as he remembers from his past a being called the Pumpkin Man and a building on the property called the Lodge. Rix hooks up with a local newspaper reporter (Raven) and as he starts learning more than he wants to know what really lies within his family tree, Rix has to make sure that he doesn't descend into madness as what is pulsing throughout Usherland is pure evil in its truest form!

That is about all I can give on a taste without giving away spoilers so if you want to know more about this book, then go read it!

Thoughts:

This was a great book that took a little while to get into it because of some world and character building within the story but it finally slowly drew me into the world of the Usher family.

This was my second book by author, Robert McCammon and I can see why so many readers love to read his work. The writing style is easy to read and the words flow along smoothly. There is nothing disjointed within the story to even cause me to deviate away from what is happening - it is like smooth as silk with capturing what is going on with the story as it unfolds with scary suspense.

The book started out a little slow but picks up speed after the 50% mark and then once I hit the 70% mark the speed increased to overdrive which I read the last 30% within a few hours! Suspense, tension, spookiness, and crazy intensity was folded into the story in the last half of the book where I was wanting to munch on something!

This was definitely another great book by this author and I will be putting it on my favorites shelf. Looking forward to reading more works by this author!
