The House at the End of the Lane (The Children and the Gods Book 2) by Angel Van Atta

 πŸŒŸπŸŒŸπŸŒŸπŸŒŸπŸŒŸ

Five "Scary Spooks" Stars

Haunting Horrors!

A very small taste of what lies within:

Ellis and Amanda Moraley along with their five children move into the Moraley house which has been left to Ellis after his father had died. Not too long after moving in though things start happening with the house being haunted as the house had been empty for years so when the family arrives the house wakes up an ancient evil that wants to welcome them properly!

That is about all I can give on a very small taste without giving away spoilers so if you are intrigued then go read this book!

Thoughts:

Once again the author, Angel Van Atta grabbed me from the moment I stepped into this story as I love haunted house stories and this story was spooky as hell! I had some interesting dreams while reading this book and though I didn't actually leave a big light on in my room I did make sure that my night light small lamp was facing my way while I slept! πŸ‘»πŸ‘»

Bravery you say? lol  Not while reading this story! It spooked me out of my skin and if it does that then I know the author is doing something right! Plus there is some blood and gore weaved within the pages of this book as well which gives this book an extra kick as I had to grab my trusty gore suit! Looking forward to reading the third book in the series soon to keep my "scared meter" at an all time high! πŸ‘»

Welcome to Nightmare Island by Devin Cabrera

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Ghosts On The Loose" Stars

Malevolent Ghosts!

A small taste of what lies within:

Five friends (Jonah, Audrey, Chuck, Annie and Kevin) decide that they want to take a paranormal ghost tour to an island that is known to be a haunted attraction that has ghosts. The only downside is the only way to reach the island is by boat and the boat will leave then have to come back to pick them up.

The friends just want to experience the island and see if it lives up to what it is known for but something happens while they are there and the ghosts that were caged becomes free taking over the island and going after the friends. It becomes an act of survival for all of them!

Thoughts:

This was my first time reading this author and I thought the story was a grabber as once the ghosts get loose on the island it becomes a wild free for all.  A lot of reviewers have compared this book to Thirteen Ghosts and Jurassic Park which is about right, however, I am comparing it more to the book "Ghostland" by author, Duncan Ralston that was published in 2019.

This is my opinion only but to me the "ghosts being behind barriers and getting loose" is not an original concept by this author. The background setting with characters is different, and the ghosts are different, but that is about all that is different. Other than that observation the book is loaded with ghost action and lots of blood.

Jungle Rot by Brian G. Berry

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Scary Spook In The Woods" Stars

Creepy Suspense with Action!

A very small taste of what lies within:

Soldiers Zachary Barnes and Brad Tierney are over in Vietnam fighting out on the front lines but something streaks down from the sky causing a big explosion off in the woods. Barnes and Tierney along with their team start seeing some weird things in the woods besides the VC enemy soldiers to the point that they realize something is just off out in the woods, but when they see a soldier that is literally melted is when things go to hell in a handbasket very quick and it becomes more of a survival against what they do not know could be out there along with the VC soldiers!

That is about all I can give on a very small taste without giving away spoilers so if you want to know more then go read this book!

Thoughts:

Once again, the author, Brian G. Berry has laid out some wicked gore and blood splatter that is shot out all over the pages of this book! The normal with this author is books soaked in blood and characters swimming in pools of visceral and this book is no exception! Loved the characters in this one along with the cosmic horror that is saturated within the book.

There is tons of sci-fi mixed with horror and extreme horror in this story and the author, Brian G. Berry just weaves it all together bring the story into fast paced action (ton of action in this story) along with dreaded suspense and nail-biting tension! This was also a book that required at least more than two gore suits and get ready for this: my personal gore mobile when needed. πŸš™

This is about my 11th or 12th book by this author and he has quite a few more out there that I need to step into. If you want some extreme horror in the face then go check out Berry's work and you will not be disappointed!

There is Nothing to Fear by David Kempf

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Twisted Mystery" Stars

Suspense Shocker!

A very small taste of what lies within:

There is a man in jail that something is seriously wrong with him and no one knows what to do with him so Sherlock Holmes is called in to solve the mystery, but there is a twist that will even stump Sherlock Holmes and have him wondering.

That is about all I can give on a small taste as this book is super short so if you are intrigued then go read this book!

Thoughts:

This was a very short romp into the mind of author, David Kempf as this story wraps around a twisted version of Sherlock Holmes and something that he discovers. Something a little different with this story as there is mystery and suspense along with a tiny bit of a science fiction vibe. Another great short story by this author.

Pine Lakes by Christopher Motz

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Twisted Horror" Stars

Psychological Suspense!

A small taste of what lies within:

Ted Merchant and his wife, Susan just want to get away to the retreat of Pine Lakes as they had been going there annually, but on the way there they end up in car crash from bad weather and when they finally come to their senses from the crash they start seeing things in the woods.

They are able to walk away from the crash but with the bad weather and rain they want to find a place for shelter and they do see a house in the distance, but once they enter the home of the "nice people" that are willing to help them out things go awry and everything is not what it seems as what they have wandered into is far worse than what they had to endure with their car crash!

That is about all I can give on a small taste without giving away spoilers so if you are intrigued then go check out this book!

Thoughts:

This story was a gripper from the beginning as things take off right away and the psychological terror steps in as the characters Ted and Susan go through so much from the car crash and then they start seeing things in the woods.

The pace picks up with suspense the more the characters come across supposedly helpful characters in the story but then the story takes a wicked twisted turn and the characters are going into survival mode.

There was a major twist that yanked the rug out from under me near the end of the book which I never saw coming as my thoughts never wandered in the direction the story was going. Lots of tension, suspense, and psychological terror run rampant in this story and once again the author has captured my attention with his stories. This was my second book that I have read by this author and I have a few more of his books simmering on my kindle.

The Bygone Dagger by Joseph Lallo

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Mystical Magic" Stars

Fantasy Fun!

A small taste of what lies within:

The Masker family is known for taking contraptions and turning them into something special. When Fel's father acquires a treasure map which points to a location of a treasure vault he sends Fel on a treasure hunting mission to locate certain items within the vault.

Fel has all the tools he needs to acquire the treasure but bad people are wanting to lay their hands on it too and they will do whatever it takes to make sure that they find it before Fel does, but Fel has some magical help with his lantern Wick who gives him advice along the journey and his friend, Tome who helps him as well.

Does Fel find the treasure? What does he have to go through to acquire it? Who are the bad people? What kind of trouble do they cause?

No spoilers here as if you are intrigued then go read this book and series!

Thoughts:

This was my first time reading this author and one of my friends recommended this author to me so I read this book with my friend on a buddy read. It was a magical and different type of fantasy story. It reminded me a little bit of a cross between a steampunk fantasy story and a high end fantasy story. Kind of mix and completely different than what I have read in the past with fantasy stories.

I really loved all the characters as they all come across as down to earth type of people. I was impressed by the author's writing style as the author drew me right into the story and kept me wrapped within the pages. I became so involved in the story that everything around me ceased to exist as I was magically dropped into the world of The Greater Lands.

I am looking forward to continuing on with the series as I want to see what lies in store for Fel and his family.

All The Sand And Tears A Monkey Can Buy by Mort Stone

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Toxic Terror" Stars

Tension!

A very small taste of what lies within:

A nuclear bomb goes off which sends a mix of people to gather in a grocery store as they all try to figure out what they are going to do. Being crammed into one place with people from different backgrounds becomes more of a survival then what is laying outside in wait for them!

That is about all I can give on a small taste as this book is super short and there would be spoilers otherwise so if you are intrigued then go read this book!

Thoughts:

Another great book by author, Mort Stone as these short stories that he has been throwing out to us readers has been giving us a fine meal with some white wine! Author, Mort Stone has a flair for keeping the reader engaged and the writing flows along at a great pace. Looking forward to more books by this author in the future.

Estate Sale by Mia Dalia

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Spooky Occult" Stars

Suspenseful!

A very small taste of what lies within:

An estate sale with different items ends up in the hands of different families and they go through all kinds of situations with the items.

Thoughts:

I know that was a very small taste but I could not say more without spoilers so I just made it as short as possible like dangling a morsel out there to go read this book.  There are two pov timelines as well - one pov timeline goes back in time when the items were first acquired by the owners and then there is an up to date pov timeline of what happens to the people that acquire the items from the estate sale.

There is lots of occult overtones to this story as the items within are not normal and I loved how the author writes two timelines of where the items came from and what happens to the people after buying them from the sale. There was quite a bit of suspense and tension weaved within the book keeping me glued to my kindle quite a bit and kept me wrapped up with lots of creepy shivering spooky vibes! Another excellent book by this author and I have a couple more books by this author which I will be stepping into soon.

Inside the Devil's Nest by John Durgin

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Spooky Apparition" Stars

Creepy Wrapped With Tension!

A small taste of what lies within:

Anthony Graham a real estate agent that got involved with a crime family witnesses them murdering his friend Hank. Anthony escapes even though he knows they saw him and know that he witnessed the killing. Anthony gets his wife and kids then heads out of state to a remote location where he owns a cabin from one of his real estate properties.

Though unbeknownst to Anthony the cabin and property have some local legend of where a cult leader and followers died in the past. Escaping the crime family is really the least of his problems as what awaits for Anthony and his family at the remote property could very well be worst than what a crime family could do to him!

That is about all I can give on a small taste so if you are intrigued than go check out this book!

Thoughts:

This was my second book by author, John Durgin and what an action packed haunting story it turned out to be! This book starts out with a bang and doesn't let up all the way through the story as Durgin keeps the "pedal to the metal" pushed down at full throttle with tons of action, suspense, and tension!

This book literally kept my insomnia fueled a few nights as I just had a hard time putting the book down! I kept wanting to know what was going to happen next and I kept telling myself one more chapter, but one chapter would turn into four chapters!

Looking forward to more books by this author in the future as his writing style is top notch with me!

Murder in Mind (Sloane Monroe #2) by Cheryl Bradshaw

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Thriller Chiller" Stars

Suspenseful!

A small taste of what lies within:

Sloane Monroe is back in this second installment with maybe finally getting close to her sister's killer who was never caught and who disappeared years ago called the Sinnerman. The Sinnerman is back and bodies are starting to turn up along with "cat and mouse" notes to Sloane as he becomes brave enough to enter her realm.

As Sloane tries to keep pace with the killer she will have to do everything she can to bring him to justice before he lays waste to bodies all over her city. Does Sloan catch the Sinnerman?

No spoilers here as you will need to read the book and this series!

Thoughts:

As always with books by this author - the story is fast paced and keeps me on the edge of my seat. I ended up reading almost 25% in one sitting as I just become caught up in the writing style of the author and cannot seem to lay the book down!

I love all the characters in this series as everyone seems so real as I become caught up in the storyline. The villain the Sinnerman is one scary baddie as parts of the book has his thoughts thrown in as well as he plays this mind game with Sloane.

All in all this was a great sequel to the first book and I will be looking forward to continuing on with the series in the future.

🌟🌟🌟

Three "Spooky SΓ©ance" Stars

Haunted Mansion!

A small taste of what lies within:

Paul Wilson and his wife, Carol end up having to pull into the driveway of run down mansion as the blizzard that they found themselves in was too much for them to keep driving. Paul and Carol are kind of surprised when the mansion door opens and someone comes out to greet them as the mansion looks to be abandoned.

When Paul and Carol are ushered inside they are very surprised to see a few people gathered around and they think maybe they stumbled into some sort of party. Once they meet everyone they learn that the people are there for some sort of sΓ©ance and they are wanting to contact the dead. From that point on things take an interesting turn and the house comes alive with haunting activity, but they will all have to endure it as the blizzard rages outside and no one can leave!

That is about all I can give on a small taste without giving away spoilers so if you want to know more then go read this book!

Thoughts:

This was my first time reading this author and as much as I liked the writing style the actual story really did nothing for me. The haunting of the mansion was not super spooky like I thought it would be and the seances become constant throughout the story as one of the characters tells a story about the past.

As interesting as the past seems to be about what happened in the mansion the story takes a long time getting to that point and it all just seemed drawn out to me which seemed to drag in spots. All in all I am glad I read this book as I have owned it for a long time.

The Child (The Children and the Gods Book 1) by Angel Van Atta

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Twisted Terror" Stars

Insomnia Fuel!

A small taste of what lies within:

Sarah is trying to figure out what is wrong with her daughter, Emma as she seems to be the same but not the same as something is lurking within her daughter.  Emma will have blood on her clothes and Sarah is at a loss at what Emma has been up to until things start revealing themselves of Emma's antics which ends up with Sarah becoming terrified of what Emma has been doing. Emma has the capability of making things happen when things around her do not go her way, but how far will she go before it is too late?

That is about all I can give on a small taste and if you are intrigued then go grab this book!

Thoughts:

This was my first time reading this author and I have owned this book for awhile so I am happy that I finally stepped into it as this book drove my insomnia a few nights as I just could not put this book down! This story really takes off about the 40% mark and I read almost half the book within just a few hours.

The pace is fast and once I was past the 50% mark the story escalated and there was no way that I was going to slow down as I wanted to see what was going to happen next! Looking forward to stepping into the rest of the books by this author as I have books two and three simmering on my kindle.

The Devil's Coming to Get Me: The Haunting of Malvern Manor by Richard Estep

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Freaky Creepy" Stars!

Spooky Haunting!

A small taste of what lies within:

Paranormal investigator Richard Estep along with his investigating crew decide to spend three days and nights in Malvern Manor that is known in the area as being haunted. After Estep watched the paranormal show "Paranormal Lockdown" that featured the manor he decided that he wanted to check it out for himself. The home was many things before becoming a manor with all kinds of people living within its walls which has brought about some different entities that live within the manor including a shadow man.

Thoughts:

This book started out mild as up to about the 35% mark the author discussed some different things about the book with background information of what the manor had gone through as a building in the past along with the kinds of people that passed through there. After the 35% mark begins the actual investigation of Estep and his crew. This is where things get really interesting and creepy as Estep goes into details of what they are doing with their devices and what the devices do along with what they are hearing and seeing.

Reading this story literally captures the visuals of what the author is writing about as I can almost see what he is writing. I do watch those kind of paranormal true shows and have been watching them for years so I am familiar with the devices that he is describing.

This story goes into full spooky mode though after the 50% mark which kept me glued to my kindle as things started happening. I did go over to the Discovery+ channel to watch "Paranormal Lockdown" as I wanted to see the show that Estep was talking about that surrounds the Malvern Manor but on that show with Nick Groff and Katerina Weidman  they did not seem to experience a lot like Estep and his crew were experiencing. So I think Estep and his crew stirred up something as there seemed to be more activity with their investigation.

All in all this was a great book which kept me on my toes and gave me some weird dreams. Yeah - I had some interesting dreams from reading this book which sometimes is a given when I read true paranormal stuff. I also liked how this author describes things and goes into details of what they are experiencing. I am planning on reading more books by him and his haunting experiences.
