Grandson, Cody Manchester comes home to Spite Island as he has not been there since he was a boy as he was frightened by something that happened there when he was young.  As Cody tries to learn what scared him as a boy - the authors that are staying on the island are having more encounters with the ghosts that inhabit the island and as they try to write about the house/island the ghosts and the hauntings escalate! 

That is about all I can hand out with a small taste so if you want to know more then go read this book and series! 

Thoughts:

The second book moves along a great pace which kept me in a state of suspense. This sequel covers more information about the house and the island itself with why it is haunted. I am still loving the author characters as they wander around the mansion and island trying to figure out why the place is haunted. 

The authors, Thorne and Cross bring the magic of the storytelling alive on the pages of this book with drawing me into the world of the Manchester's and their haunted island.  

Once again I found myself staying up late into the night reading as the mystery and suspense of the hauntings kept me intrigued with the flipping of my kindle pages as I made my way through the story. Looking forward to reading book 3 and the final book of this trilogy shortly.

Would You Stay the Night in Spite House?

A small taste of what lies within:

The Manchester family own an island called Spite Island which upon the island sits a mansion called Spite House. The house has now been opened to let authors stay in the house so they can write about what has taken place there. As the matriarch, Agnes overlooks everything including what the authors do while they spend their time there - the house itself starts to slowly come to life as the ghosts that haunt the house wake up when the authors start exploring the mansion! 

That is about all I can hand out with a small taste without giving away spoilers so if you want to know more then go read this book! 

Thoughts:

Thorne and Cross bring this book alive on the pages as I found myself just sinking into my cozy chair and letting this book transport me into Spite House.  There are quite a few characters to keep track of with not only the authors but the house staff as well but each one has their own personality. I loved all the characters including "Bernie" - oh you want to know who Bernie is - well you will need to read the book as I am not divulging that information (😍),  but the characters in this book is what kept me turning the pages long into the night! 

I literally read the last 30% within the last two days as the story just escalated to the point that I would find myself reading late into the night as more things started happening in the story! Thorne and Cross always keep me tied up in knots when I read their books as I never know what will be happening but their stories flow along at a great pace and I always enjoy their books immensely! 

With that being said I have started book two in the series called "Spite Island" as book one kind of ends in a way that I need to read book two now! Yes! Right now! 😄  So if you are in the mood for a spooky and suspenseful ride then go check out this book! :)

Who or What Lives in the Brownstone? 

A small taste of what lies within:

Allison Parker is a model that would love to live in an apartment in Manhattan and she gets her wish when she sees that there is an apartment for rent in the paper - an old brownstone. After she moves in though things kind of go wonky as her neighbors are kind of on the bizarre side and she has learned that an old priest lives on the top floor but no one seems to know much about him.  

As time moves on things go from mysterious to strange when Allison learns from the real estate agent that there is no one else living in the building and there are no neighbors except for the priest! 

What happened to the neighbors? Were they there or in her imagination? What is up with the priest that lives alone on the top floor? Is the brownstone haunted? 

No spoilers here so if you want to know more then go read this book!

Thoughts:

This was my first time reading this author and I have had this book on my tbr list for a long time. Decided to finally step into it as the cover alone just creeps me the hell out and I knew that this story was going to be a doozy and I was right! The whole book was a suspenseful horror mystery and I had a hard time putting this book down!

I kept wanting to read it and sometimes I would read late into the night. The author just wrapped me up with the spookiness of the story and sometimes the pace of the book was fast as I would keep flipping through the pages of my kindle trying to figure out the mystery of what was happening to Allison!

There is a sequel to the book that I need to read at some point plus there is a movie that I have never seen either. Looking forward to eventually stepping into the sequel and if you want a book that is going to fuel your insomnia then this is the book!

A small taste of what lies within:

Belinda Moorland is back along with Grant, Eric and quite a cast of characters in this installment as something lies deep within the mansion that they need to slowly deal with before it is too late! 

What lies deep within Ravencrest Manor is the ghost of Amelia Manning (the Bride) as her husband Lionel died in war not too long after they were married and now she has been asleep within the manor for a long time until she is awoken and when the Bride wakes up she is not happy at all which as time goes on she lets "all" of Ravencrest know that she has returned! 

Will Belinda, Grant, and Eric along with supporting characters be able to stop the Bride?  

No spoilers here and that is about all I can hand out with a small taste so if you want to know more then you will need to read the book to find out what happens! 

Thoughts:

This book was one creepy and spooky story with quite a bit of ghost action as well which kept me on the edge of my seat in a few parts of the book. When the Bride wakes up is when things go from quiet to rumbling as the Bride starts to cause a little chaos within the manor! 

The main characters of Belinda, Grant, and Eric keep this story moving along at a fast pace. The supporting characters of Essie, Ryan, Cordelia and Riley also keep the story moving quickly - all the characters mesh well with each other making the story come to life on the pages of this book! Looking forward to the next book in the series to see what happens next and what Belinda, Grant and Eric have to deal within the next installment.

I Bought a Haunted Christmas Tree Farm by Sam Whittaker

When You Inherit a Farm Always Check for Spooks!

A small taste of what lies within:

Roger and his family have inherited a Christmas tree farm but though he doesn't really know much about growing trees he doesn't look a gift horse in the mouth so he moves his family to the farm. 

However as time goes on there are some quirky things that happen on the farm that makes the family wonder what they got themselves into and wondering what is happening on the farm with the weird things happening to them.

Thoughts:

This was my second book by this author and I really enjoyed the story. The book is set up as an Advent Calendar where you would read a chapter every day however I just read the whole thing as I became caught up in the story line and wanted to keep reading. 

The story had some spookiness to it but different things that happened in the story made me chuckle some too. It wasn't a scary horror story but just a fun and festive holiday horror book that captured my attention. Looking forward to reading more books by this author as it seems he has quite a few books out there.

What Lies Within The Abandoned Manor?

A small taste of what lies within: 

Sinclair gets dropped off in the middle of nowhere by a date gone wrong during a thunderstorm. Sinclair finds an old abandoned manor to stay in while she waits out the storm, but once she gets inside the house closes in around her and the atmosphere shrinks to a spooky feeling as she wanders around the manor. 

On her wandering adventure through the manor Sinclair comes across an old diary that belonged to a woman that used to live there, but little does she know that the ghost of the woman still lingers and the ghost has a message to share!

Thoughts:

Wow! This story just grabbed me and took me on an emotional spin as this story goes far beyond a haunted house with ghosts as author, Candace Nola weaved a tale of what a ghost still feels in the afterlife - the anguish and despair continue on with things that happened in their life. 

This was a different kind of ghost story and it packs an emotional punch! There was a little bit of world building in the beginning of the book with the character Sinclair making her rounds within the manor but after the 30% mark the pace of the book picked up speed and when the ghost makes an appearance is when the story escalates! 

I felt that the story was spooky but not leave the lights on spooky - it is not that kind of story that is meant to scare the pants off of you - it is a story about pain, grief, anger and love. 

So if you want a different kind of ghost and haunting tale then check out this book.

What Lies Within Parson Hall?

Jodie Callaghan is a paranormal investigator who decides to check out a haunted location on her own called Parson Hall. As she is snooping around in the building she becomes cautious as a stranger arrives (Joe) who is also there to roam the building. Little does Jodie know that Joe has some devious plans set for why he is there in Parson Hall which ends up creating ghostly chaos that could kill them both!

Thoughts:

This book grabbed me right away as I was thrown into the mystery of the haunted building Parson Hall as I was wondering how creepy this book was going to be since the author, Lee Mountford loves to tinker around with ghost/haunting stories. 

I was not disappointed as this book has tons of atmospheric scenes with quite a bit of ghost/haunting action as well which kept me reading into the late hours of the night!

The pace moves quickly throughout the book and kept me in suspense of what was going to happen next. The reason that this book is not getting five stars is because the character Jodie kind of got on my nerves.  The character Jodie just seemed out of tune with the paranormal activity that was happening around her and yet she is a paranormal investigator that is supposed to know something about being one.  

I thought the other character Joe was more believable with what he was doing in the story. Otherwise beyond the character problem I thought the book was great and kept me wanting to continue reading the story to the end. Looking forward to reading book two in this series at some point soon to see what happens next with the character Jodie.

Thoughts:

This was a great book with interactive prompts that can either give paths of escape or paths to an untimely end. I remember reading interactive books years ago so this was cool to read this book which is wrapped around the Ghostland trilogy which I have read.  

The interactive features with the different paths were interesting and entertaining - I felt that to experience the book deeply was to try out the different paths just to see where they took me.

A small taste of what lies within:

The Cliffhouse Lodge has been around since 1887 and it holds a dark secret past as there was a murder back in the 1920's by a serial killer called the Bodice Ripper along with some other dark happenings in the past and the ghost of the Blue Lady. Now there are murders happening in the town and the Blue Lady walks the streets once again. Will the townspeople be able to protect the town and learn who or what is behind the murders? 

No spoilers here as if you want to know more then you will have to go read this book! 

Thoughts:

This book had tons of spooky vibes weaved within the story and there is quite a bit of haunting action as well! Once again I was transported into the world of both these authors as the story flows smoothly along and stays on quick pace of spooky happenings. Loved all the characters in this book along with supporting characters as they all seemed to be fleshed out well. I am looking forward to reading more books by these authors in the future as I own quite of few books by both of them.

Two timelines - early 1900's and Present Day

Alice along with her two daughters, Ruthie and Fawn are living in a house that has been around for over a hundred years. Mysterious things slowly seem to happen within the house and then one day Ruthie comes home to find that her mother has disappeared. The mystery of the disappearance is wrapped around a woman that lived in the house a hundred years ago and as Ruthie tries to find out what happened to her mother she ends up digging into the past realizing that something from back then is responsible for her mother's disappearance.

Thoughts:

This book was deeply mysterious as the author goes deep into the one timeline from the 1900's as there is lots of backstory on those characters and then goes deep into the present day with the mother's disappearance. The story stays at a steady pace throughout the book. I did not become bored with any of the story as the author goes into a lot of detail within both timelines. I would consider this story to be a historical mystery supernatural suspense story more than I would actual horror.  There was more of a suspense and mystery feel to the book with the supernatural weaved into the story.  

I loved all the characters in this book as I made my way through the story line and was pleased that the story kept the mystery of what was happening to almost the end of the book. All in all I enjoyed the story. This was my second book by this author and look forward to reading more of her work in the future.

I am not really going to do a small taste on here as this book held six ghost short stories so I will just give a tiny cryptic note on each one.

The Silent Bell: An invention that doesn't go as planned for the inventor.

The Stonegate Manor Collection: Paintings that are not what they seem no matter what they cost.

The Haunting of Reverend Carson: A psychic that pretends to talk to the dead gets his just rewards when the dead pursue him.

The Last Waltz: An invention called a Zoopraxiscope gives one man a glimpse to seeing his long dead wife once again dancing for him.

The Speaking Tube: A son's hatred for his father has a tube that connects to hell letting his father hear the cries and torment from beyond.

The Ghost Train: One man's journey aboard a ghost train will be unforgettable.



Thoughts:

These short stories were all set in the Gothic times and they all wrapped themselves around me as I scrunched down in my cozy chair. I feel that all the stories were fast paced and I loved all the characters within each one.

I have come to love stories by this author and I was super happy to finally read this collection of short stories as it was perfect for this time of year.

Creepy Haunting! 

A small taste of what lies within:

John Rydell has been through the wringer with losing his wife and going through a depression stage of grief, but now something is lurking in his house to the point where he thinks he might be going crazy as something is haunting his footsteps and he is not sure what has invaded his home or better yet what does it want!

Thoughts:

This is my first time reading a book by this author and it won't be my last! I loved how the story just started out as it pulled me into the spooky world of this author! I found myself reading twelve chapters in one sitting as I could not put the book down! I truly lost myself within the story as my room disappeared around me and all I could focus on was the story itself. 

I loved the character John and I felt for him as things started happening to him. The mystery of the story just kept me suspended in intrigue as I made my way through the story as I was trying to put the puzzle pieces together of what was taking place with the haunting. 

There are some timeline flips though as the story will go back to college days of John and his friends then come forward to the present day. The timeline jumps were smooth and easy to follow so I didn't mind them at all as to know what is happening in the present day as the past has to be slowly revealed. I am not much into timeline jumping but if the story moves along smoothly and the author writes it as such then I am fine with it. 

The spookiness of the story just kept me wrapped within the pages of this book as I could feel the dread slowly starting to seep under my skin. This haunting tale was awesome and I am looking forward to reading more by this author which I have a couple or so more books by him on my kindle.

Those Who Dwell in Mordenhyrst Hall by Catherine Cavendish

Haunting Atmosphere!

A small taste of what lies within:

Simon and Grace are planning to get married but when Simon brings Grace to Mordenhyrst Hall to meet his family Grace feels out of sorts with not only the mansion and the village but also she feels that she doesn't belong at Mordenhyrst Hall as she is not welcomed as she would hope. But something is not right as there is something sinister not only lurking in the mansion but in the village as well! Something haunting - something off - something does not feel right, but what is it?

Thoughts:

Once again author, Catherine Cavendish has grabbed me with her atmospheric haunting tale of Mordenhyrst Hall - a mansion that has many secrets and characters that are weaved within magnificently! You become attached to some characters and others you wish would just go away! 

The story moves along at a great clip and the author describes details of the mansion, village and characters making you think that you have been pulled straight into the book as if you were experiencing and seeing what is being described in the story! 

I have read many books by this author and I am always impressed by how fast she is able to pull me into her stories and keep me there for the duration of the book!

Haunting Mystery!

A small taste of what lies within:

Nate and Helen leave the city life and move to a small town in Vermont. They decide to build a home instead of buying one so that they can design it the way they want. Helen decides that she wants "pieces of the past" added to the house as they build it from the places around the town, but what they both do not realize is that the past weaves itself into the present as the town holds a deep dark history that will come crashing into the lives of Nate and Helen as Helen brings more of the past into the new house!

Thoughts:

This was my first time reading this author, but I have been wanting to read this book for a long time as I have owned this book for quite awhile. I love a good ghost story with all the haunting shivers that normally is associated with spooky stories.  This book rates up there with the best of them as this book was one creepy and haunting tale! 

Loved all the characters in this one - main characters and supporting characters. I love how the author goes deep into the background story of the town setting as the descriptions of everything jumps right off the page. The haunting itself that is wrapped within the book was a spooky tale that kept me up some nights reading the story as I didn't want to go to sleep so I just kept turning the pages to see what would happen next! Looking forward to reading more books by this author.

Atmospherically Creepy!

A small taste of what lies within:

A small town in Ireland is the focus of this story as Kit Fitzgerald decides to move there as she is offered a job in the town. It isn't long before she makes new friends who invite her to a Halloween festival but things go awry when they talk her into participating in a ritual that is part of their festival.  

From that point on Kit is stalked in her home by unseen forces and she wonders if she is losing her mind or if something really is after her. With the help of her new friends she will need to find out what exactly is haunting her home and was it something to do with the ritual!

Thoughts:

This was my first time reading this author and I have owned the book for quite a few years now on my kindle. The story grabbed me kind of quick - it started out a little slow but picked up speed fairly quickly as there was some background building to do before things got rolling. 

I really liked the characters in this story and the creepiness along with some dread and suspense just weaved itself throughout the story. The story is wrapped around quite a bit of folklore which took me deep into the storyline. Really enjoyed this spooky tale and it is too bad that the author only has two books out as I would love to read more of her work.

Mysterious Haunting!

A small taste of what lies within:

The story follows two timelines. 

1916 Timeline:

Dr. Henry Abberton is a doctor in World War I and his wife, Elizabeth and three children are having to get along without him the best way they can. Elizabeth ends up hiring a man (Michael) to help out around the place but one thing leads to another and they have an affair which leads to gossip in their small town. Henry and Elizabeth write letters quite often and Henry does know about Michael as Elizabeth tells him about the handyman helping out. Henry will be coming home eventually and Elizabeth will need to make a decision of what to do! 

2016 Timeline:

Adam and Catherine along with their daughter Bella move into the Abberton House to get away from the city life. The house is perfect for them but their daughter has an imaginary playmate named Charlotte. Adam and Catherine think nothing of it till they start hearing a child's laughter and running feet on the landing which it turns out is not Bella! As time goes on there are faces in the window, banging noises upstairs, and other paranormal activity throughout the house which they learn is the Abberton family. What they don't know is why they are haunting the house but they finally go on a search of what is causing the haunting.

Thoughts:

I love a good ghost/haunting story and this one delivers on all counts for me. Both timelines are written well and there is quite a bit of backstory for the timeline in 1916 which I loved as you get plenty of details of the family and what unfolds within the household. The backstory for the family in 2016 is just as detailed and I became attached to both families and their lives. 

The author keeps the mystery of the haunting a secret up to the very end which I also loved because sometimes the secret is revealed too soon and then you are left wondering how the story will end, but not this book as the author just kept me in state of suspense of why the Abberton family was haunting the house.

The book is not scary but the mystery of the story is what kept me wrapped within its pages. I would consider this book more along the lines of a supernatural/paranormal suspense novel even though some readers have it shelved under horror. Horror has such a broad scope now days as there are tons of sub-genres under the actual word "horror" that as a reader there is quite a bit of flexibility with what type of books are considered horror. Ghosts and hauntings usually fall under horror but also it can fall under mystery and suspense as well. It is all about the reader and what they come away with after reading a book that has to do with hauntings and ghosts.

This story kept me in a state of total suspense as I kept wanting to know the "why and what happened" for the ghost haunting. The author delved deep into the storyline and I felt that the story kept up its pace with the haunting. Things happen slowly at first with a slight buildup of suspense and then as the story progresses the haunting activity increases. A small taste of what lies within:

Addison Lockhart along with her boyfriend Luke tries to solve a haunting mystery of why Addison is having dreams of two young ghost girls. Addison thinks it might be somehow connected to her home that she inherited of Grayson Manor at first but then realizes that it is connected to another manor with the name of Rosecliff. 

Addison realizes that something is amiss when she delves into the mystery of why two sisters died at the manor of Rosecliff as a lot of the townspeople think it was just an accident but the more Addison investigates of what happened the more she seems to think that it was no accident and something else happened!

Thoughts:

I really like this series by the author, Cheryl Bradshaw and I have decided to continue on with the series as I read the first book about three years ago and I own all the books in the series. The stories are stand alone too - the only connection is some of the main characters. All the stories are different. 

I love all the characters in this series and the story moved quickly once it got going. It started out a little slow with a small buildup of background information of what was taking place in the story but once the mystery started to deepen then the pace picked up. Once I was past the 40% mark the story just took off and I felt myself caught up in a wind storm of pace as I was flipping through the pages faster as the mystery of the story intensified and I wanted to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next! Looking forward to continuing on with the series to see what mystery Addison finds herself in next!

The Haunting of Maddy Clare by Simone St. James

Five "Ghostly Suspense" Stars

Creepy Haunting! 

A taste of what lies within:

A ghost hunter, Alistair Gellis is in a pickle as his assistant Matthew Ryder is out of town and Alistair needs help on a ghost hunting adventure to the town of Waringstoke so he hires Sarah Piper from a temporary agency to help him. As luck would have it though Matthew Ryder does make an appearance at the last minute but it is decided that Sarah can just go along to be with them since Alistair is paying for her to be there. 

When they get to Waringstoke and meet with the client Mrs. Clare, she tells them that she needs her barn to be cleansed of a ghost but when they try to do just that the ghost does not want to leave the barn as something is keeping her there and Alistair, Matthew, and Sarah will have to find out why the ghost is hanging around and what happened for the ghost to be haunting the barn. The mystery deepens when they all find out there is a lot more going on then everyone originally thought as the ghost of Maddy Clare is on a revenge rampage and they will need to find out what secrets are lying in wait for them in the town of Waringstoke!

Thoughts:

Wow! I loved this story! The mystery of the haunting of Maddy Clare just slowly took shape the more I became involved in the story. The author slowly builds up the mystery and suspense of the story as she also unfolds of why there is a haunting. It takes awhile though for the haunting mystery to be solved but the atmospheric tones of the story just drew me right in to the book. 

I also loved all the characters - the main characters of Alistair, Matthew and Sarah just meshed together and I felt at times that the story was wrapped within the gothic genre. The setting of the story is not too long after the first World War and you can feel the times of that era as things happen within the book. 

Sometimes I felt that I was right there with the characters as things were happening and for an author to be able to pull you into their world where it feels like you are experiencing the feelings of the characters and the world they live in never ceases to amaze me. I tuned everything out while I was reading this story and was carted away to that time era. The haunting itself also slowly builds up to a crescendo and the last 40% of the book I just could not put the book down! I do have to say though there are a few steamy romance scenes dotted here and there within the story but other than that the story kept me held in suspense with lots of haunting mystery woven within.  Another great book by this author and looking forward to reading more of her work!

1775 (The Haunting of Hadlow House #3) by Amy Cross

A small taste of what lies within:

The year is 1775 and two men (George and Thomas) are wanting to kill King George so that the colonies can be free, but the two men make a mistake when they hide out in Hadlow House as they don't know what they have just stepped into as Hadlow House is never really empty as old ghosts still roam its halls!

That is about all I can give on a small taste without giving away spoilers so if you want to know more than go read this book and series! The books are not stand alone - they must be read in order to understand the story. 

Thoughts:

I thought the story was good as there is quite a bit that happens within the pages and the story is kind of short being under 200 pages so it makes for a quick read. There is some ghost activity that is interesting and intriguing along with some mystery set in a historical background. That is the plus side of the story but the negative side of the story was when the author Amy Cross would mix up character names and confusion would abound of who was who while I was reading the story. 

Other than that the story just became stuck within the house some and things going on in there with the ghosts that are part of Hadlow House. I would find myself getting bored within certain parts of the story as it didn't seem to move along quite as quickly as I wanted it to.

I am curious about the rest of the series though as to how Hadlow House plays out for the future years. So I will be continuing on with the series to see what happens next.

Spooky Terror!

A small taste of what lies within:

Louise along with her brother Mark are thrown for a loop when their parents pass away at the same time and they both have to make arrangements to meet at their parents house to decide what to do with the house and decide if they want to sell it. 

Louise and Mark don't get along that well as they have had a rocky sibling relationship so things don't go as planned at first but when they start messing with the house they find out that the doll and puppet collection that belonged to their mom is haunted.  The more Louise and Mark try to get rid of the house the more they are met with resistance as the dolls/puppets do not want the house to be sold and they will do whatever it takes to keep Louise and Mark from selling!

Thoughts:

This was a different type of haunted house story as the haunting of the house mainly lies within the doll/puppet collection. This book really has to do with cursed/possessed objects and what happens to families that have those kinds of things in their homes. Though this book also had some humor in it too as the author Grady Hendrix just wrapped this book around spooky and creepy vibes but tossed in some funny quips here and there. 

I really enjoyed this story and when the book hits the 30% mark it slowly takes off. The author builds up the suspense of the story and brings the haunting more into focus as time goes on. By the time I reached the 45% mark the book was building up steam and I had a harder time putting it down as things were happening more in the story but when I hit the 60% mark is when the story went into overdrive as the haunting went into full scale terror! 

I loved all the characters as there are quite a few in the storyline which are mostly family relations to the siblings but they all mesh well within the storyline and you are able to feel what they all go through with this haunting. The book really brings to light what families go through when parents pass away and the siblings are left to take care of everything including trying to sell a house and property. The author plops the reader into the family drama of all what takes place in the story and surrounds the reader with the atmosphere of the haunting. Another great book by this author and looking forward to reading more of his work.
