Play Nice by Rachel Harrison

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Spooky Scares" Stars

What Kind of Entity Lives in the House on Edgewood Drive?

A small taste of what lies within:

Clio Barnes along with her two sisters (Daphne and Leda) have inherited their childhood home from their mother who has just passed away.  Clio's sisters, Daphne and Leda want no part of the home as all they can remember when they lived there were bad times and their mother acting crazy.

Clio on the other hand wants to fix up the house to maybe sell it however her memories about the house do not coincide with her sisters and their memories. The house is also considered to be haunted and the only sister brave enough to enter the house seems to be Clio. What Clio finds there though is more than she bargained for as when she starts to fix up the house there is a presence that tries to make itself known which sends Clio down a rabbit hole of curiosity and spooky speculation!

That is about all I can hand out with a small taste so if you want to know more then go read this book!

Thoughts:

This was my first time reading this author and I wasn't sure how spooky or scary this book was going to be until I read a couple or so reviews which I usually do not do as normally I go into a book blind by just reading the synopsis of what the book is about. But a couple of reviews that I read said the book was scary so I love scary books and being spooked out of my skin which is what this book does eventually.

The story has a slow build up of suspense and mystery - there is also quite a bit of family drama that is throughout the whole book with the sisters bickering about the house but once I delved deep into the story of the house then the creepy factor of the story slowly started to simmer bringing it to a full blown haunting by the time I finished the book! I can actually say that I was spooked out of my skin after I passed the 60% mark of the book as the haunting becomes more focused on what happens in the house and how the characters have to deal with it.

Looking forward to reading more by this author at some point as I see that she has quite a few books out there to read.

Evil Whispers by Owl Goingback

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Voodoo Folklore" Stars

What Lies Within the Blackwater Lagoon?

A small taste of what lies within:

Robert and Janet Patterson along with their 10 year old daughter Krissy decide to stay at the Blackwater Fish Camp that is located in a rural part of Florida where life is more peaceful than what they are used to in the city. When Krissy starts telling her parents about her "special friend named Mansa" that she met out by the lagoon her parents kind of shrug it off thinking that Mansa is an imaginary friend.

The Pattersons learn soon enough though that Mansa is anything but imaginary as they find out from an old Seminole Indian that lives in the area that the imaginary friend is really an evil spirit named Mansa Du Paul who was once a voodoo sorcerer in that area.  Mansa is trying to do whatever he can to get back to the living so that he can continue practicing his evil magic and Mansa wants Krissy to help him complete the task of once again walking the earth!

That is about all I can hand out with a small taste so if you want to know more than go read this book!

Thoughts:

This was my first time reading this author and this book took me on a ride into the pits of voodoo hell as the story kept me glued to my kindle! I became so caught up in the story that everything disappeared around me and the visuals of the story just jumped right off the page!

The author just pulled me straight into the story and didn't let me go as I found myself barreling along wanting to see what would happen next. There are some gory parts that are weaved into the story as well which kept me turning the pages faster!

I loved all the characters in this book as they were well rounded and felt that they were like people that you could just sit down to talk with about things in Blackwater.

This author has quite a few more books out there that I will be exploring in the future.

The Exorcist Code Haunted 2 (The Exorcist's Code #2) by William Massa

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Occult Robotic Terror" Star

What Would Happen if Robots Ruled the World?

A small taste of what lies within:

Father Callum is back in this book with a new task set before him as things went wonky in the last book. A new robot (Lux) has entered the picture that was created to fight the forces of supernatural evil and is supposed to be the ultimate ghost hunter.

However when Lux is set forth in one of the most haunted mansions in Silicon Valley things do not go as planned as the evil entity of the mansion wants to take over Lux and create an army of evil robots, but Father Callum stands in the way of the forces of evil - can he stop the entity before it is too late?

That is about all I can hand out with a small taste so if you want to know more then go read this book and series!

Thoughts:

Once again author, William Massa slowly pulled me into this book as once again I thought I could just read a couple or so chapters but the story starts out a little slow with world building but it doesn't take long before I am slammed right back into the story that continues on from the first book.

After the 30% mark the story picks up speed to the point that I read about half the book in one sitting as things go from calm to action packed within just a few chapters! I was barreling along at the speed of light as I read this book in about two days and could hardly put the book down!

The characters come alive on the pages of this book and the evil villain ghost pulses with pure evil as it becomes the focal point in the latter part of the book. I was glued to my kindle and the book fueled my insomnia as I careened along at a high rate of speed!

I am planning on reading book three in the series shortly as I don't want to lose momentum with this series as book four will be out at the end of this year. Another great book by this author and I am looking forward to reading some more of his books in the future.

Rosemary's Baby by Ira Levin

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Wicked Witchy Spooky" Stars

Do You Really Know Who Your Neighbors Are?

A small taste of what lies within:

Guy and Rosemary Woodhouse move into an old apartment building called the Bramford which has a somewhat seedy and mysterious past. The neighbors, Roman and Minnie Castevet take a great interest in Rosemary and Guy to the point that they all become quite close however when Rosemary has a weird dream about rituals in her apartment is when she wonders if it was all real.

When Rosemary becomes pregnant is when things begin to escalate as Roman and Minnie become more attentive to the needs of Rosemary and would do anything to make sure that she is comfortable. Rosemary begins to wonder if they are really concerned for her welfare or are they after something else?

That is about all I can hand out with a small taste so if you are intrigued and want to know more then go read this book!

Thoughts:

I had read this book many years ago back in the early 90's but it has been so long ago that I didn't remember any of the story so it was like I had read it again for the first time.

This book was one creepy ride into the occult zone though I didn't realize that the occult was really involved until further into the story as the author makes everything subtle and mild weaving a suspenseful mystery of what is taking place within the Bramford.

The pace of the story moves fast and I had a hard time putting this book down as I just wanted to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next! I became so involved in the story that I was up till the early morning hours as the book picks up speed after the 50% mark so I just wanted to keep reading. I can see why this is considered a classic horror story as it just kept me in a state of suspense, mystery, and creepiness!

Five "Haunted Hell" Stars

What Would You Do With A Haunted Chair?

A small taste of what lies within:

Ricky Delatolla is an antiques dealer. A man by the name of Mr. Grant stops at Ricky's house with a truck load of antiques wanting to sell them to Ricky but Ricky is hesitant about the antiques until he sees a chair that has unusual carvings on it. Mr. Grant is eager to give the chair away but Ricky has a weird feeling about it all but when Mr. Grant leaves the chair in the driveway along with some other antiques then Ricky wonders what is going on.

Ricky soon finds out that the chair is not just a normal chair but a chair that has evil tendencies and he soon wishes that he never laid eyes on it as whatever is haunting the chair is ready to turn Ricky's life upside down!

That is about all I can hand out with a small taste so if you want to know more then go read this book!

Thoughts:

This story grabbed me right away as the author pulled me into the story quickly as I was curious about the chair and what could possibly be in store for the character Ricky. The chair is the focal point in this story and the whole book is pulsing with evil vibes as the characters have to deal with a portal to hell chair that they cannot get rid of!

This book goes deep into the occult themes along with keeping me pinned in my seat as I read half the book in one sitting as I couldn't sleep one night and stayed up a few hours as the story went into overdrive with things happening to the characters because of the evil chair!

I am never disappointed with a Masterton book and this story not only sunk its teeth into me it tossed me into the throes of hell!

Devil Music by Michael Penning

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Hell Ride Horror" Stars

How Far Would You Go to See Justice Done?

A small taste of what lies within:

Rowan Pierce wants revenge any way she can for the murder of her daughter as two classmate boys took her daughter's life.

She blames some of the murder on the metal band Haruspex for their song lyrics, but when Rowan goes to confront the lead singer Cole Abel for what he did to her daughter she finds out that Cole can help her tap into her raw emotions through the metal music and the occult to make the murderers pay for their crimes another way - though that will lead her on a path into hell - but does she want to follow that path?

That is about all I can hand out with a small taste so if you are intrigued then go read this book!

Thoughts:

This book was one "hell of a ride" into terror as the character Rowan seeks revenge for her daughter. The author weaves an emotional story of just how far a mother will go to get vengeance for her child. The author, Michael Penning taps into deep emotions in this story and brings everything to a crescendo boil as the story goes deep into the heart of the character Rowan.

I have been reading this author for awhile now as I am reading a series of books by him and his stories always capture the essence of what is happening within the story. He brings raw emotions to the table in this book and goes deep into the occult theme showing just how far anyone would go to see justice done.

The pace was fast in this book as I would find myself reading it late into the night as I could not put the book down! Another great book by this author!

The Lodge by Jeremy Eads

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Dangerous Demon" Stars

Bloodcurdling B&B

A small taste of what lies within:

The Maple Lodge, a bed and breakfast, that sets in Southwest Virginia is home to Solomon Drury VI, a demon who runs the Lodge and anyone that passes on their way through the area is welcome to stay there.

Shirley McGreggor is on the run from the law and needs a place to stay for the night - when she comes across the Maple Lodge she finds Solomon to be accommodating and helpful to her, but what she doesn't realize is that something is not quite right about Solomon and the Lodge and before she realizes it Shirley becomes entangled in a web of terror!

That is about all I can hand out on a small taste so if you want to know more then go read this book!

Thoughts:

This was my first time reading this author and I was quickly drawn into the story fast as I didn't have time to catch my breath as things happen right away in the story. The story just grabbed me from the first page and it sent me on a spooky trip into a mystery and cold terror zone!

I would find myself staying up late at night to read the book and I just could not lay the book down! There are a few story lines with different characters that come into play as they all come in contact with the main character Solomon but the author kept everything flowing smoothly and I found myself just drawn into the world of the Maple Lodge.

Another author added to my list of ever growing indie authors and looking forward to reading more by this author in the future.

The Evil Within The House by Thomas Michael Thomas

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Occult Chiller" Stars

Spooky Story!

A small taste of what lies within:

Jake and Clarence are upset when their friend, Terrell commits suicide as they don't understand why he would do that so they decide to see if they can talk to him through a Ouija board to find out some answers to their questions. But what the two friends don't realize is that sometimes who you reach out to through a Ouija board is not who you want and the friends end up pulling "something" else through from the other side!

That is about all I can give on a small taste without giving away spoilers so if you want to know more then go read this book!

Thoughts:

This was my first time reading this author and I felt that the creepiness of the book seeped under my skin! The feeling of dread and suspense as the characters were playing around with the Ouija board just gave me some anxiety while reading the story as I knew something was going to happen.

I was not disappointed with this story as the whole book was drenched in the occult with lots of shadowy characters that gave me some really weird dreams. I liked the characters within this book though I think the book would be considered YA as it has that feel to it, but all in all the story would probably be good to read around Halloween time. Looking forward to seeing what else this author has out there.

The House of a Hundred Whispers by Graham Masterton

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Haunted Horror" Stars

Spooky Occult Vibes!

A small taste of what lies within:

Robert Russell along with his wife, Vicky and their son Timmy inherit a mansion named All Hallow's Hall as Robert's father passed away. Robert's brother Martin and his wife all decide to meet at the estate to find out what gets divided and what they are going to do. But things go to hell in a handbasket quick when Timmy disappears and no one can find him. While they are searching for Timmy other things start happening within the mansion as they all start hearing loud whispering that seems to emanates from one room in the home.

When they go to investigate a malevolent force lets itself be known that it does not want them there and it will do whatever it takes to keep them out of that room. One thing leads to another when they decide to call in a priest as then whatever force is in the mansion goes into a rage and the Russell family is standing in its path!

That is about all I can give on a small taste without giving away spoilers so if you want to know more then go read this book!

Thoughts:

Once again I was transported in Masterton's world and this story just kept gaining speed as once the character Timmy disappears the story seemed to get faster. Lots happening within this story as there is a haunting along with demonic activity which sent this book into high gear. It took some time though to get into the story but once things started happening within the mansion, the creepiness and suspense dug down into my psyche.

I read the last half of the book in a couple of days as I could not put it down! This should really be a five star read but when Timmy disappears I felt there was too much of the story spent looking for him as that takes up a good 30% to 40% of the book but once other things start happening then the focus of the story shifts to other characters in the book and the story starts heating up.

The whispering, the haunting, and the demonic activity takes center stage eventually and this is what truly drove the story at high speed to the end of the book! All that is what kept my insomnia fueled and then the puzzle pieces falling into place when more is revealed of why the mansion is haunted. Another great book by this author and looking forward to reading more of his books as I own quite a few I have not read yet.

Estate Sale by Mia Dalia

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Spooky Occult" Stars

Suspenseful!

A very small taste of what lies within:

An estate sale with different items ends up in the hands of different families and they go through all kinds of situations with the items.

Thoughts:

I know that was a very small taste but I could not say more without spoilers so I just made it as short as possible like dangling a morsel out there to go read this book.  There are two pov timelines as well - one pov timeline goes back in time when the items were first acquired by the owners and then there is an up to date pov timeline of what happens to the people that acquire the items from the estate sale.

There is lots of occult overtones to this story as the items within are not normal and I loved how the author writes two timelines of where the items came from and what happens to the people after buying them from the sale. There was quite a bit of suspense and tension weaved within the book keeping me glued to my kindle quite a bit and kept me wrapped up with lots of creepy shivering spooky vibes! Another excellent book by this author and I have a couple more books by this author which I will be stepping into soon.

Through the Surface by Juliet Rose

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Terrifying Occult" Stars!

Shivering Spooky Suspense!

A small taste of what lies within:

Iris Brubaker moves onto a small island off the coast of Maine as she inherited a lodge from her grandmother. When she meets Ledger Elliott she doesn't realize that they are both on a path of bad things to come and they will both be involved in things beyond their control as the rumored secrets of occult dabbling that used to be within the lodge will be coming to a boil and what lies dormant within the lodge along with being involved somehow with Iris is about to explode into their world!  Iris along with Ledger are about to be caught up in a chaotic event that could lead to a path of destruction!

That is about all I can give on a small taste without giving away spoilers so if you are intrigued then go read this book!

Thoughts:

This was my first time reading this author and all I can say is "WOW" - this book was one scary ride into the world of the occult along with demonic activity! I can actually say that I had some wicked and wild dreams with this story as it delved deep into my psych as I was reading it, which to me is always a good thing as it means the book is superbly great to have that kind of affect on me.

I loved the writing style of this author as Juliet Rose pulled me straight into the storyline right away when I first picked up the book. I was only planning on reading a chapter or two then ended up reading a few chapters taking me up to about the 15% mark in one sitting as I just could not put this book down!

I loved the characters and all the supporting characters in this story as I became attached to each one of them. The suspense and mystery of the storyline moved along at a quick pace which kept me wrapped within this story for the last 48 hours. Looking forward to reading more books by this author soon as she has some more books out there to read.

Demonic by Jeff Strand

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Dastardly Devilish" Stars

Demon Action!

A very small taste of what lies within:

Corey wants to do whatever he can to help out his co-worker, Quinn as he has feelings for her even though she is married. When Corey makes a decision to kill Quinn's husband Vic is when things go south quick as Vic is a serial killer but not just any serial killer - he is almost immortal and Corey along with Quinn find themselves in major heaps of trouble when all their plans start to unravel!

That is about all I can give on a small taste so if that has piqued your interest then go check out this book!

Thoughts:

This book read fast and right away I got caught up in the story as the more things that happened the more I couldn't put it down! I found myself barreling along at a high rate of speed during the middle of the night a few nights as I kept wanting to see what would happen next! I had to suit up in my gore suit too as this book was loaded with blood and splatter!

The characters, Corey and Quinn go from one thing to another without much let up and there were a lot of breath hitching moments wrapped within this story as the action was so fierce and fast that my fingers almost became numb flipping through my kindle pages! 😆

There is lots of dark humor as well within this story and I was biting my lips and giggling at the same time! Another great book added to my "Strand Collection" and one I won't soon forget!

Dark Observation by Catherine Cavendish

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Suspenseful Spooky" Stars

Demonic Twist!

A small taste of what lies within:

Setting: World War II

Vi has found a job that will send her to the depths of a government complex (the war rooms) where she becomes involved with working close with Prime Minister Churchill. While she is getting adjusted to her new job - things happen at a home she is renting - strange things - spooky things that make her wonder what is going on. There are three of them that rent the home from a nice lady, Mrs. Harris - Vi, her friend Tilly, and a strange girl named Sandrine.

As time goes on with all three of them in the home - the war rages outside but inside the home creepy forces are at work which will send Vi, Tilly and Sandrine on a collision course toward hell!

That is about all I can give on a small taste without giving away spoilers, so if you want to know more or your interest is piqued then go grab this book!

Thoughts:

Author, Catherine Cavendish never disappoints! I do not read a lot of historical settings within horror but some authors can just weave the horror settings into historical background which can grab the reader and pull them into that time era - Catherine Cavendish is one of those authors!

This story had it all - suspense, mystery, scratching your head wonderings, demonic theme vibes pulsating throughout the story, historical settings, and tons of things happening that make you think hard.

When the demonic themes picked up more within the story as most of the story is saturated in it I had a feeling where the story was going as I have read fiction books and non-fiction books on the occult. I have read lots of true paranormal non-fiction books in the past that had demons and the occult involved so I kind of guessed some of it and my brain was already forming scenarios of what was happening to the characters in this book.

To understand more from where I am coming from then you will need to read the book and discover it for yourself as I have said enough already and don't want to go into it too deep or spoilers might arise. Go read it and let this author swirl you back to World War II letting you discover the mystery of working in war rooms with a dark occult background lurking in the shadows of your mind.

Mirror by Graham Masterton

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Nightmare Mirror World" Stars

Spooky and Sinister!

A taste of what lies within:

Martin Williams is obsessed with everything and anything that had belonged to a child movie star named Boofuls that was murdered in the 1930's as he has his home decorated with different memorabilia from the actor. So when he has the opportunity to buy a mirror that had hung in the child star's home Martin cannot refuse to buy it as he wants to add it to his collection.

Though Martin finds out quickly that "something" is not right with the mirror as things seem to be reflected differently in the mirror than in the real world. Martin "thinks" he sees Boofuls in the mirror, but he puts it down to his imagination as how could the child star be in the mirror when he was supposed to have been murdered.

When Martin tests out the mirror by throwing a tennis ball at the mirror he is shocked when the tennis ball disappears into the mirror and another ball is shot out into his world. Martin begins to wonder if maybe the soul of Boofuls is inside the mirror and he was not imagining things after all. Things go from bad to worse when the landlord's son, Emilio disappears and Martin fears that the mirror snatched Emilio as what else could have happened to him, but his fears are confirmed when another boy steps out into the real world that looks to be an exact replica of "Boofuls".

That is about all I can give on a taste and if you want to know more about this story then you will need to read the book!

Thoughts:

This is my first time reading Graham Masterton and I do not know why I haven't stepped into his world yet as I know he has been around a long time. I wish I had stepped into him long before now as this book was awesome and the flow of the story just kept me moving at a fast pace. The story is wrapped up with not only disappearances of things and characters, but the story is also wrapped tight within the occult as well.

There were some scary parts and there are tons of descriptive details of different things that happen within the story. There is a downside to the story that I wasn't happy about as pets are involved in some descriptive scenes that have to do with the mirror. But other than that the rest of the book kept me on the edge of my seat and I literally read a 400+ page book within 48 hours!

There was never a dull moment within this book and the author keeps the intrigue of the mirror at an all time high as one thing after another happens to characters that come in contact with the mirror. I literally have more books by this author that I will be stepping into at some point in time as I am now a Masterton fan!

Haunted series (Books 1 - 5) by Lee Mountford

Wow! The Haunted series by author, Lee Mountford is one spooky and scary series!

The author, Lee Mountford writes spooky and scary stories which I have read almost all of his books except for one now. He created this haunted series last year and "Wow" I was just blown away by how creeped out I became while reading the first book "Haunted: Perron Manor". The author then wrote a sequel "The Devil's Door" which grabbed me right away and kept me spooked out not only during the daytime, but at nighttime as well as I was barreling through the book in the middle of the night.

I love haunted house stories and this series will just blow you away as the haunting theme of the series creeps under your skin!

As of now, the author has written three more books and there are more to come in the future within this series which will no doubt keep me "spooked" for the duration of this series as the haunting descriptions of the series will delve deep down into your psych and keep you rooted into the horror realm of this author's mind!

I love occult horror and the ghostly/demonic themes that pulse throughout this series will keep you glued to the pages of the books! You might have nightmares, twisted dreams, and you might even think you see shadows out of the corner of your eye, because once you step into this haunted series you will not be moving out of your cozy chair as you will be flipping through the pages of these books while the ghosts/demons come alive within your room!

Listed below are the books in the series and they are listed in order. The books are not stand alone novels! The books must be read in the order I have them below as things happen within the books with the same characters. I have also added links to my reviews under each book to give you more of an insight to the books and the storyline.

Also the author wrote a prequel to the Haunted series called "Inside Perron Manor: Investigating Britain's Most Haunted House" which is technically a prequel to the first book, Haunted: Perron Manor, which gives a different perspective from the view of the paranormal investigator that is a main character in the Haunted series. It is not a necessity to read this prequel before the series, but for me it gave me a better insight to the haunting of Perron Manor, so I did read this book first before I stepped into the series.

My wrap-up thoughts are this:

This horror series has kept me rooted in fear since last year as each book I read in the series will definitely fuel my nightmares as the shivers skitter across my spine! So if you love spooky occult/demonic themes and you want to read something that will make your breath hitch in fear then go grab the first book, "Haunted: Perron Manor" and be prepared to be scared as you step into this series!

Highly Recommend this series!

The Horror at Criven Farm by Amy Cross

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Sinister Spooky" Stars

This was a crazy and wild horror romp!

A small taste of what lies within:

Phil and Grace are looking for a new place to call home, but when they come upon a house in the woods that is abandoned with electricity and water still turned on they decide to just make themselves at home and settle in. What they don't know is someone is keeping an eye on them and the house is not abandoned like they think. When the crap hits the fan they are going to know it, but will they be able to survive it?

That is about all I can give on a small taste as you will need to read my full review on Goodreads.

Thoughts:

I am always curious what this author has in store for me next when I read her books as sometimes I am plopped right down into the middle of a sticky situation and sometimes I have to crawl through mud to get to the point of the story.

This was one of those "mud-crawlers" as this book started off as a slow burn which took me to about the halfway point. Normally I would throw in the towel by the 35 to 45% mark, but I was just drawn to where this story was going and I had questions of why things were happening within the story, so I just decided to stick it out. I am happy that I stuck with the story as past the halfway point of the book it literally took off into an action packed zone of craziness that kept me flipping through my kindle at the speed of light! Another great book by author, Amy Cross!

The Devil's Equinox by John Everson

 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Occult Vibes" Stars

Creepy & Spooky Ride!

A small taste of what lies within:

Austin wishes his wife Angie were dead and lets that idea be known to a woman that he meets in a bar one night. The woman ends up becoming his next door neighbor and when his wife does end up dead, Austin is scrambling trying to figure out what happened.

The woman "Regina" sweeps in and takes over Austin's life along with his baby daughter, but all is not what it seems as Regina has plans for the both of them which brings Austin into a world of devil worship where there might be no escape!

That is about all I can give on a small taste so if you want to know more then go read this book!

Thoughts:

This book took me on a deep and dark ride into the underworld of devils and witches. There is quite a bit of erotic horror within these pages along with back stabbing deception with the character, Regina as she spins her web of betrayal bringing the character, Austin into a world that he has never known.

The story moves fast and the story flows along at a quick pace which kept me entertained and interested the more I moved deeper into the story as I kept wanting to see what was going to happen with Austin as I didn't know if he would be able to get out of his predicament along with escaping with his life intact.

The situations in this book are tense and suspenseful as the author, John Everson weaves his own web of story telling that brings the world of witchcraft and devils into the light while reading about the dark world of the occult

The Summer Job by Adam Cesare

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Spooky Spine Shivers" Stars

Summer Fun or Summer Scares?

A small taste of what lies within:

Friends, Claire and Allison would like to have a summer job so they check out working at a hotel for the summer, but things start going wrong when they have to endure parties that are happening out in the woods by the hotel and what they find out is beyond their wildest nightmares!

That is about all I can give in the way of a small taste without giving away spoilers.

Thoughts:

This was a very cool horror story and lots of spooky under the skin scares to go along with it. This book actually would be good to read around Halloween and this book also kept me reading late into the night when I read it back in 2018. This was also my first book by this author and I have since checked out more of his work.

The Demons of Cambian Street by Catherine Cavendish

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Shivering Suspense" Stars

Spooky Occult Chiller!

A small taste of what is inside:

Stella is slowly recovering from cancer and she wants to go somewhere that is peaceful and serene. Stella and her husband find such a place on Cambian Street. As they settle into the home everything seems fine at first, but then small things start happening that makes Stella wonder if she is imagining things. There is a cupboard in the house that has a lock on it which Stella finds curious, but she starts wondering what is really going on when the cupboard starts unlocking itself.

When Stella discusses it with her husband, he just laughs it off saying it is an old house, but what they don't know is that the cupboard is locked for a reason and what is in the cupboard is beyond their wildest nightmares. The more that Stella tries to relax and recuperate, the more activity starts flaring up in the home.

Stella makes friends with a woman (Rhiannon) that practices Wicca and along with her new friend they try to discover what is haunting the home as this is not the first time that something has happened there. What they find is a nightmare from hell!

That is about all I can give on a small taste so if you want to know more then go read this book!

Thoughts:

The book begins as a peaceful and tranquil time for Stella, but quickly builds in suspense, tension, chills, along with twists and turns all the way to the spooky end. After I was 30% into the book it just took off on an accelerating ride into the unknown as I didn't know what to expect with each page turn.

Author, Catherine Cavendish created characters that wrap themselves around the reader and pulls them into the nightmare on Cambian Street.

I could feel the dreadful atmosphere of the house as I was reading the book and the more I became involved with the story, the harder it was for me to put the book down! I was literally at 70% reading this book before bed, but as the suspense, tension and spooky activity of the book increased, I ended up finishing it within a couple of hours as I could not put it down!

What a ride into horror this book turned out to be! I read this book back in November of 2018 and what I found inside was so full of spooks that it is a wonder my kindle didn't become haunted! 👻

So if you want a book that is going to "spook you out of your skin" and give you delicious nightmares then go read this book as it will wrap its tendrils of fear around your mind and take you on one hell of a ride!

Voodoo Heart by John Everson

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Blood Soaked" Stars

Twisted Suspense of Terror!

Second time reading this book kept the terror running rampant!

A small taste of what lies within:

Detective Lawrence Ribaud has his hands full as he tries to figure out his latest case as this case is more personal when his wife has become one of the victims. Beds are saturated in blood but no bodies and the only thing left of the person is their heart.

"Welcome to New Orleans"

Ribaud knows that this is no ordinary crime and that to find the truth he will have to go into the underground of the city. As he digs deep into the case he enters the world of voodoo and the more he learns the worse off he is as now the tables have been turned on him as things happen to him to warn him of not going any further with the case. When you poke a stick in a hornets nest you are going to get stung or in this case when you poke a stick in a snake pit you are going to get bit!

What happens to Ribaud? Who or what is stealing bodies and leaving the hearts? Does Ribaud find the person or persons responsible for the crimes? No spoilers here as you will just have to read the book!

Thoughts:

This book literally kept me awake nights as I just could not put it down. Major insomnia fuel! Second time around reading this book kept me awake even more!

The author, John Everson, obviously did some research on this book as there is quite a bit of the voodoo lore within these pages. Lots of twists and turns along with some blood splatter throughout the book as I made my way through the storyline.
