Ghost Road Blues (Pine Deep #1) by Jonathan Maberry

πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€

Five "Bone Man Boo" Stars

Wow! This was an excellent creepy story!

A small taste of what lies within:

The small town of Pine Deep is saturated in spooky lore that revolves around the Bone Man which is traced back to 30 years before when something tragic happened in the town. Every year since there has been a haunted hayride that surrounds the lore of the Bone Man, but this year everything is disrupted when three wanted criminals come through the town and the Bone Man makes an appearance along with another haunting that is layered within the town.

That is about all I can give on a small taste as you will need to read my full review on Goodreads.

Thoughts:

This was my first time reading this author as I have had this book on my tbr for a long time. I finally decided to step into the book to see what all the fuss was about as over 100 of my Goodreads friends have either read it or it is on their tbr to read. This book just grabbed me right away as the writing style of the author just pulled me straight into the storyline!

The book is a little bit of a slow burn, but the horror that lies underneath the story slowly brings itself forth as time goes on and once the criminals come to the small town the story explodes with suspense and tension along with spooky tendrils of fear that surrounds the haunting of Pine Deep.  I will be looking forward to reading the second book in the trilogy which is "Dead Man's Song".

Cherry Bomb (Jack Daniels Mystery #6) by J.A. Konrath

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Vindictive Villain" Stars

Wow! Another great installment to the Jack Daniels series!

A small taste of what lies within:

Jack is back but is on the hunt for Alex Kork as "lo and behold" she escaped Jack's clutches in the last book! This time though, Alex has gone way over the edge as she is on a major killing spree and starts targeting once again people that Jack cares about. Jack along with her friends Harry and Phin will need to do whatever it takes to stop Alex even if it means breaking the law.

That is about all I can give on a small taste as you will need to read my full review on Goodreads.

Thoughts:

This book kept me on my toes almost as much as the last book and I found myself pulling another all night "Jack Daniels" bender with no sleep as the story just kept me fueled with tension and suspense along with some action that just kept me awake!

Some more chuckles and laughs with banter from the character Harry McGlade as what a tension breaker it has become with his character and Jack. I have never laughed so much while reading a crime series as the quips and banter are priceless!

I was literally exhausted after reading most of the night but I just could not put this book down! Each chapter ended where I needed to read the next chapter and it just continued like that for near half the book. So will continue on with the next installment after I catch up on some much needed sleep! lol

Red by D. J. Doyle

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Twisted Terror" Stars

Twisted Bloody Mess!

A small taste of what lies within:

Serial killer Dwayne goes on a killing spree as he kidnaps women and has his way with them, but things go topsy-turvy for him when he grabs Amanda as she is not what she seems.as he seems to think that she is innocent but he soon finds out that she is definitely not innocent as she has some tricks up her sleeve which makes Dwayne wish that he had left well enough alone!

That is about all I can give on a small taste as you will need to read my full review on Goodreads.

Thoughts:

This was a bloody and gory romp through the twisted mind of author, D. J. Doyle! I had to grab my full fledged gore suit for this book as when the blood and gore started flying I wanted to be prepared!

This is a short story as I read it in about an hour, but I was riveted to the book and kept in suspense mode as I wanted to see what was going to happen next!

The Ghosts of Miller's Crossing by David Clark

πŸ‘»πŸ‘»πŸ‘»πŸ‘»

Four "Ghastly Ghost" Stars

This was a riveting and creepy story!

A small taste of what lies within:

Edward Meyer can see and interact with ghosts, but he thinks that maybe it is all in his head until he goes back to his hometown of Miller's Crossing and learns that he isn't the only one that can interact with ghosts as his family has kept a secret from him for years and he learns quickly that he will have to carry on the family tradition of ghost hunting.

That is about all I can give on a small taste as you will need to read my full review on Goodreads.

Thoughts:

This was a new author to me and the story starts out a little slow, but as time moves on the author brings the story up to a crescendo which kept me in a state of suspense throughout most of the book.  There is quite a bit of mystery also weaved within the story and the pace keeps up with all the ghostly atmosphere which lies within this book. This book is the first one in a series. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Fuzzy Navel (Jack Daniels Mystery #5) by J. A. Konrath

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Thriller Killers" Stars

Wow! Another nail biting tension story!

A small taste of what lies within:

Jack has landed herself in hot water with a boiling index near explosive proportions when she is surrounded by killers that just want to take her out along with killing everyone that she cares about!

That is about all I can give on a small taste as you will need to read my full review on Goodreads.

Thoughts:

This story was just rocking and rolling along with major tension and suspense that kept me glued to my seat along with keeping me up most of the night as it felt like walking over hot coals with heart pumping action!

Well you know that you are wanting to make it across the hot coals so you know you are going to get burned but you have to careen through them anyway to make it to the other side - that is how this book felt as once I entered this story there was almost no way I was putting it down till I read almost half of the book!

The humorous quips are back within this book which helped to lighten up the tension and I found myself chuckling a lot during this story as the character, Harry is funny as hell throughout most of the book with all the banter that he slings around makes this book one of the funniest yet!

This book does end on a major cliff-hanger which prompted me to go right away to read the next one in the series which is "Cherry Bomb" as I had to see what happened next!

Last Wrong Turn by Amy Cross

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Bloody Brutal" Stars

This was a brutal and bloody story!

A small taste of what lies within:

A horrific car accident happens to Pete and Penny, but things go from bad to worst as Penny ends up tied to a table in an old barn and her husband Pete ends up in a bad way. That is not the worst of it as Penny is pregnant and her captor wants the baby!

That is about all I can give on a small taste as you will need to read my full review on Goodreads.

Thoughts:

This story was brutally gory and violent along with psychological terror throughout the first part of the book. The second part of the book was a little more milder, but the suspense and terror were still ingrained in the story.

Though the story was fast paced and kept me glued to my seat I had a few "grumblings" within the story as there were quite a few unanswered questions that left me hanging on the clothesline whipping in the wind so I never could figure out what happened with certain things in the book.

The first part of the book was almost like high octane as I read most of the first half of the book within a couple of hours but the last half of the book became almost like I was running on vapors as the story took a turn toward the twilight zone and left some loose ends within the story that were never answered.

All in all though the story was bloody, gory, and chock full of terror which I love along with the suspense and tension that kept me wanting to read the book.

The Entity by Frank De Felitta

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Spooky Spectral Entity" Stars

Spooky and creepy paranormal entity!

A small taste of what lies within:

A woman, Carlotta Moran, is being attacked by an unknown entity every night in her bed. No one can see the entity but her which leads to people thinking that she is just having hallucinations or nightmares. Things become worse though as time goes on and no one believes her till finally she finds a couple of college students that study the paranormal which leads her on the road to maybe figuring out what is happening to her.

That is about all I can give on a small taste as you will need to read my review over on Goodreads.

Thoughts:

This was really a great book and though it is fiction the book is based on a true story of this happening to a woman in California back in the early 70's. The author does a great job of doing in depth research of the actual case and applying it to his book. The story definitely reads just like the true paranormal stories.

The story takes off in the first chapter with something happening right away which pulled me quickly into the story and which also sets the pace for the entire book! I had a hard time putting this book down as I was just entranced with what this woman was going through and how she had a hard time finding anyone to believe what was happening to her.

Short and Creepy!

Baker Johnson meets with author, H.P. Lovecraft as something is revealed that gives grave concern to Baker which ends up making Baker wonder about his reality and which eventually brings forth a demon.

That is about all I can give on a small taste as you will need to read my full review on Goodreads.

Thoughts:

These short serial books are quick and easy to read. I really love the writing style of the author as the stories just flow along. The story just grabs me from the beginning of the book and keeps me entranced throughout the story. With this story I love how the author inserted a real life author into this fiction tale. Infected (Slow Burn #2) by Bobby Adair

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Fight to Stay Alive" Stars

The sequel kept me glued to my kindle!

A small taste of what lies within:

The continuing story from the last book - Zed and his companions are trying to dodge zombies and learn to live in this new world. They end up finding some more people that are alive and they try to help them the best way they can without getting themselves killed in the process. Zed and company find out about a bunker that might be "zombie-free" and they make their way towards that location.

That is about all I can give on a small taste as you will need to read my full review on Goodreads.

Thoughts:

This book had quite a bit of action along with discovering new characters to fight the zombie fight. The character, Zed has grown up a lot mentally in this book as he has become more in control of the situation of this new world where he has to learn to cope with the situation at hand.

The story flows along with some twists and turns along with keeping the pace moving throughout the book. I am planning on continuing through the rest of the series to see what happens next in the zombie adventures of Zed and crew.

Dust Devils by Jonathan Janz

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Wild West Vampire" Stars

Wild West Vampire Reading Rumble!

A taste of what lies within:

Cody Wilson is on the hunt for traveling stage actors after they abducted his wife. While on the hunt for the actors Cody comes across Willett Black who also has lost family members to the stage actors.

Cody and Willett track down the actors to a town, but they soon find out that the actors are not human, but are something far much worse than anything they could have ever imagined. Revenge will be sweet but they will have to go to hell and back to take out the actors as they are really on the hunt for vampires and they will need to keep their wits if they want to achieve that goal.

Thoughts:

I was pulled in quickly to the story and transported back in time to the old west. The story is centered around vampires that are traveling actors that go from town to town.

There is lots of action in the beginning of the book and there is lots of graphic sexual content as well throughout most of the book. The last 30% of the book is non-stop action with lots of blood and gore splashed across the pages! Another great book by this author!

Beast by Anna Willett

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Creepy Beast Worthy" Stars

Wow! Two stories packing a punch within this book!

A small taste of what lies within:

The first story - Last Call:

Two friends (Jackie and Dursha) explore an abandoned hotel for a fun time of taking pictures to sell on the internet, but while exploring they come across more than they bargained for within the dark corners of the hotel.

The second story - The Widow:

Two men (Dan and Ren) break into a home of a widowed woman to steal cash, but things go horribly wrong and the tables are turned on them which leads to one of them dead.

That is about all I can give on a small taste for both stories as you will need to read my full review on Goodreads.

Thoughts:

Though the book was short both stories just grabbed me and kept me entwined within the pages. Both stories had lots of spooky moments and creepy feelings as I delved into reading them. I have read a few books by author, Anna Willett as she mostly writes crime thrillers, but she stepped into the horror realm and what a ride she took me on with this book! Looking forward to reading more horror by her along with her crime thrillers.

The Haunting of Gillespie House by Darcy Coates

πŸ‘»πŸ‘»πŸ‘»πŸ‘»

Four "Creepy and Crazy Cult Leader" Stars

This was a great spooky read!

A small taste of what lies within:

Property sitting becomes spooky and scary for a young woman that has agreed to take care of the Gillespie property while the owners are gone for a month. When she starts to explore the house she wakes up the ghost of a cult leader who sets his sights on her.

That is about all I can give on a small taste as you will need to read my full review on Goodreads.

Thoughts:

The book was full of creepy/spooky vibes and it did have spotty haunting atmosphere, but it wasn't one of the haunted tales that creeped under my skin like other ghost stories from author, Darcy Coates. I have read quite a few of her books and most of them keep me in the spook zone for the whole book, but this one was still a great read, but I wasn't leaving the lights on with this book.
