Veiled by Jeff Strand

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Twisted & Crazy Fun" Stars!

Comedy Horror Mixture!

A small taste of what lies within:

Nate is on a blind date which things don't go well until his eyes connect with a woman across the room. From there things take an interesting turn when Nate runs into the same woman (Alice) at the grocery store - is it just happenstance or something else?  Nate and Alice start talking and they just seem to hit it off but as time moves along Nate sees "oddities" about Alice that give him pause and wonder if Alice is just a little off balance in her mind or if there is something deeper going on. What he learns takes him on a twisted path into Alice's world!

That is about all I can hand out on a small taste so if you want to know more then go read this book!

Thoughts:

This story was one crazy ride into a twisted insanity that kept me glued to my kindle! I felt for the character Nate as he tried to figure out what was going on with Alice and what made her tick. The author, Jeff Strand kept throwing monkey wrenches into my path as I tried to figure out what was going on as I wanted to know myself what was going on with the character Alice.

The story goes from one thing to another as more things are revealed about the character Alice and there were lots of chuckles throughout the story as well when reading Nate's thoughts. I found myself cracking up with laughter a few times while reading the story. I was most definitely entertained and this is why I have come to love books by Strand as you never know where he is going to take you. There is twists, turns, and just downright craziness in this story but there were some chuckles moments too.

So if you want something different that borders on twisted craziness with some chuckles mixed in then go check out this book!

Ghost Virus (Patel & Pardoe #1) by Graham Masterton

 πŸŒŸπŸŒŸπŸŒŸπŸŒŸπŸŒŸ

Five "Suspense Thriller" Stars

Fast Paced Mystery!

A small taste of what lies within:

DC Jerry Pardoe and DS Jamila Patel come across some disturbing bodies in the town of Tooting as no one seems to know how the bodies are turning up dead until they realize that some kind of virus is loose in the town but the problem is can they stop it before more bodies end up dead?

That is about all I can give on a small taste so if want to know more then go read this book!

Thoughts:

This story took me on a wild spin as the suspense kept me bound to my kindle as I zoomed along at a quick pace! I found myself reading late into the night as I tried to figure out the mystery of the story. Graham Masterton always keeps me suspended in his stories as I try to figure out the "what, where, and why" of it all.

So now I have another series that I started by this author that I will need to continue on with at some point, but I loved the characters in this story. The characters Pardoe and Patel fit well and I am looking forward to more of their investigations.

The Ghosts of Ravencrest (The Ravencrest Saga #1) (co-authored with Alistair Cross)

Thoughts:

I have had this author's books on my kindle for a long while before jumping into her work last year. I read her book The Ghosts of Ravencrest (The Ravencrest Saga #1) that she co-authored with Alistair Cross and "WOW" I was blown away as they swept me into the gothic realm of their story and I loved this book to the point that I have the rest of the series on my kindle waiting to be read. I also have a few of her other books that she wrote simmering on my kindle as well. Looking forward to reading the rest of the Ravencrest saga plus the rest of her books that I own.

Floor Four Part 1
Floor Four Part 2

Thoughts:

This author I had read his book "Floor Four Part 1" years ago and didn't realize that he had a sequel out till one of my friends let me know that there was another book out there. So I decided to do a reread of the first book to refresh my memory and then read the second book right behind it. I have some more books by this author simmering on my kindle that I look forward to reading in the future.

Quiet, Pretty Things

Thoughts:

This author came across my line of sight from one of my friends and they told me the book was great so I checked it out for myself and definitely agreed. I loved the book so much that I bought the author's second book and I have it on my kindle as well that I will step into in the future.

Book(s) Read:

Brady

Thoughts:

I grabbed this book not too long after it came out in 2021 and jumped into reading it back in March of this year.  I really liked the story and it was my first time reading this author. I have a few more by this author simmering on my kindle.

Lincoln Cole (Horror)

Amazon Author Profile:

Book(s) Read:

The Everett Exorcism (World of Shadows #1)
The Vatican Children (World of Shadows #2)
The Bishop's Legacy (World of Shadows #3)

Thoughts:

I found this author years ago when I was looking around on Amazon for occult horror and I came across the book "The Everett Exorcism". The synopsis of the story sounded super creepy with demonic activity so I decided to take the plunge and grabbed the book. I finally completed reading the trilogy when I read "The Bishop's Legacy" back in May of this year. Loved the series and even reread the first book "The Everett Exorcism" early this year for a refresher course as I wanted to read all the books back to back. I have more books by this author simmering on my kindle.

Ryan C. Thomas (Horror)

Book(s) Read:

The Summer I Died (The Roger Huntington Saga #1)
Hobbomock

Thoughts:

This author I had found on Goodreads as a few of my friends were reading the book "The Summer I Died" about three years ago as I was seeing it coming across my Goodreads feed a lot even though the book was published years ago it somehow came alive over on Goodreads as the book was popping up a lot over there so I decided to jump in with both feet as well. What a ride! I loved the book and the writing style so much that I grabbed a bunch more of his books. I also read the book "Hobbomock" back in 2022. All in all looking forward to reading more books by this author in the future.

Debra Castaneda (Horror)

Book(s) Read:

The Box in the Cuts (Surviving Hillside Book 1)

Thoughts:

This author I found also over on Goodreads as some of my friends were reading one of her books quite a bit over there which was "The Root Witch" and I decided to skip that book for now and checked out her other books. So I stepped into her book "The Box in the Cuts" and that book I really liked which I read that book in August of 2023. I have a few more of her books simmering on my kindle and I will be stepping into more of her work in the future.

Mary SanGiovanni (Horror)

Goodreads Author Profile:

Amazon Author Profile:

Book(s) Read:
Chills (Kathy Ryan #1)
Behind the Door (Kathy Ryan #2)

Thoughts:

I found this author when I was looking around on Goodreads as a few friends were reading her work so I checked out her book, "Behind the Door" as the synopsis looked intriguing. I probably should have read the book "Chills" first as it is the first book in the series but for some reason I skipped the first book and dived into the second book. The books are stand alone so it didn't really matter as I didn't miss any previous story plots. The only thing that was the same was the main character, Kathy Ryan. Really enjoyed "Behind the Door" and I started checking out what other books this author had out there. I have a few more books to read by her simmering on my kindle which I will read in the future.

Aislinn Marshall (Horror)

Goodreads Author Profile:

Amazon Author Profile:

Book(s) Read:
The Crossing
All Soul's Night

Thoughts:

This author I came across years ago as I was looking for something creepy to read and I came across her book "The Crossing". It was a good book but it was not as spooky as her book "All Soul's Night" which I loved. I read "All Soul's Night" earlier this year and it was one creepy ride! Unfortunately it seems those are the only two books that the author has out in the book world as I went to see what else she has out there and find nothing. But I won't give up hope as maybe I will see something from her in the future and if so, I will grab it!

Final Thoughts

So that is my wrap up of "Authors Discovered" this time around. I will put up another ten authors within my "Authors Discovered Series" soon.

Till next time - Happy Reading folks!

Need to Feed by Anthony Renfro

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Bloody Feeding Frenzy" Stars

Fur and Fang Fun!

A small taste of what lies within:

Saltwater Junction in Northern California is preparing for an invasion of vampires and werewolves as every year on the night of the full moon there is a feasting feeding frenzy that takes place and the town sheriff along with the town has to endure an all night onslaught of dead bodies and blood!

That is about all I can hand out on a small taste without giving away spoilers so if you want to know more then go read this short story!

Thoughts:

First time reading this author and it won't be my last! This story jumps right into some action and stays on a fast pace throughout the book. Even though it is a short story it packs quite a bit of a punch. There is lots of blood and gore packed within these pages that kept me reading quickly.

There is also two more short stories within this book that were also good but this story about the vampires were the highlight of the book. Looking forward to reading more books by this author in the future as I have a few more that I own by him simmering on my kindle.

Open All Night by Thomas Davidson

🌟🌟🌟

Three "Mysterious" Stars

Action Mixed With Mystery!

A small taste of what lies within:

A man goes into a diner to get a meal but comes across a mysterious note stuck in the diner menu of someone needing help but what makes it more curious is that there is an address. What happens next is a twisted short romp that takes the man on a small quest of trying to be a good Samaritan!

That is about all I can hand out with a small taste as this book is a short story under 25 pages!

Thoughts:

First time reading this author and I have owned this book for a long while but wanted to read a short story so I jumped in with both feet! I really liked the story as it reminded me of the TV show The Twilight Zone as that is where this story seems to meander along as it has some twisted mayhem lying within these pages!

I wish there had been more back story though of what takes place within this story which I cannot reveal as it would be a spoiler and I wish the story had been just a little bit longer but alas the story comes to a halt and it was over before I knew it! Still I thought it was a good short horror story and will be on the lookout for more books by this author which I will step into at some point.

Dead End Tunnel by Nick Roberts

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Nightmare Scary" Stars

Spooky Dread!

A small taste of what lies within:

Maverick and his two best friends are just wanting to hang out as it is Mav's birthday but his friend Max wants to give Mav something for his birthday but they have to go through a long dark tunnel on their bikes to get there. Things go from having fun to the worst night of their lives when Max disappears on their way through the tunnel. Maverick's life is turned upside down along with the whole town the night Max disappears and Maverick has never forgotten that night. Years later it is time for a revisit but what will Maverick find on his quest to know the truth?

That is about all I can give out on a small taste without giving away spoilers, so if you want to know more then go read this book!

Thoughts:

This story just grabbed me from the get go and kept me wrapped within its pages till the very end. This story is told in two different time lines - the first part of the book is Maverick as a kid and the second half of the book is Maverick as an adult.

The story moves fast as there is no time to take a breath as the author, Nick Roberts hurtles you toward everything that lies in your path to find out what really happened within the story. I had many late nights reading this story as it kept my insomnia fueled! The mystery deepens as I continued to make my way through the story and even though this is horror it also has a little bit of sci-fi wrapped within the story as well.

Another great book by this author and looking forward to reading whatever else he has coming out!

Deep Rising (1998)

My Rating

πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€

Streaming service: Tubi

Year of Movie: 1998

Main actors: Treat Williams, Famke Janssen, Kevin J. O'Connor, Wes Studi, Anthony Heald

Storyline:

A group of heavily armed hijackers board a luxury ocean liner in the South Pacific Ocean to loot it, only to do battle with a series of large-sized, tentacled, man-eating sea creatures who had already invaded the ship.

Thoughts:

I don't remember seeing this movie before but it had tons of jump scares when the characters get on the ship as there was tons of suspense as the movie moves along. There was quite a bit of tension build up as I didn't know what to expect as everything played out.

I really liked all the characters in this movie as there was lots of sci-fi action. Through it all I was riveted to the TV as I snacked along on some chips which probably wasn't the best idea when some of those jump scares almost made me choke on my chips! lol  Maybe I should eat soft cookies next time around! lol

I love watching anything that has Famke Janssen starring in it as I love watching her in movies. So this movie was a real treat!

All in all I thought it was a great movie with the right amount of action, suspense, scares, and the unknown looming of what would happen next! Gave this movie five skull stars for keeping me locked into my cozy chair throughout the movie!
