This book was a creepy short story and my first time reading this author.

A small taste of what lies within:

An old asylum stands abandoned which is also rumored to be haunted, but when two friends decide to party inside of it is when things take a twisted turn for one of the friends.

Thoughts:

This short story kept me intrigued and spooked along with fast page turning as I read this book. The author drew me right in with the writing style which has prompted me to track down more of his work.

Four "Terror" Stars

This was a different spooky short story and it was my first time reading this author. 

A small taste of what is inside:

Billy takes care of his little sister and makes sure she has everything she needs, but Billy harbors a secret that only she knows about and if anyone comes across their path or intrudes in their lives, Billy makes sure that no one harms them.

Thoughts:

Once I became involved in reading the story there was no way I was putting the book down as the writing style of the author drew me right in and kept me entranced till I finished the story. I have more books by this author so looking forward to reading more of his work!

The Lazarus Child (Blood Riders #3) by Jay Raven

 

Five "Suspenseful" Stars

The third installment to the Blood Rider series just grabbed me from the first chapter and kept me instilled in the story till the last page!

A small taste of what lies within:

Anton and company are back as they go on a quest to track down Anton's daughter, Gretchen and the only way for them to find out what happened to her is to interrogate vampire Terek Modjeski. One way or another they will do whatever it takes to find her and nothing will stop them from seeking out the information they need.

Thoughts:

All of the books in this series are interlaced with suspense, tension, intrigue, action and nail-biting intensity! This book, The Lazarus Child was no different as the story took a hold of me from the first page and kept me in hyperventilating mode throughout the book as there was so much happening that I was flipping through my kindle at the speed of light. 

The author, Jay Raven, just knows how to pull the reader into his world and keep them there for the duration of the story.

Five "Spooky" Stars

This was a creepy haunting story and it was sort of a reread, but not in this format as I had read this book when it was in separate installments back in 2016. I decided to step back into this world and revisit this storyline as this was the first work I had discovered of author, Ambrose Ibsen which sent me totally in pursuit of all his books. 

A small taste of what is inside:

A couple decide they want to buy a home that is located out in the middle of nowhere and restore the home to its former glory, but there are complications as they find out that the owners that had lived there before disappeared and no one knows what happened to them. Not only that but it seems the house and the grounds might be.....haunted.

Thoughts:

Slow buildup in the beginning of the story, but then as time goes on there is more revealed as I made my way through the book. There is quite a bit of the haunting atmosphere laced throughout the story with about the middle to the end things become more fast paced with a dose of suspense and mystery entwined within the pages of the book.

Fear by Ronald Kelly

Five "Slithering Snake Creature" Stars

Wow! This book was Southern horror at its best and author, Ronald Kelly is known for this type of Southern style that just seeps into your soul and just takes you deep into the backwoods of Tennessee!

A taste of what lies within:

Fear county is home to a creature that goes on a feasting fest that sends the citizens of the county running in "fear" for their lives. Ten year old Jeb Sweeney finally realizes that all the rumors and legends of what resides in Fear county is really true as events start happening that make him a believer when animals and people start disappearing.

Jeb decides to take it upon himself to finding out how he can stop the creature which he ends up meeting some friends along the way to help him on his journey which leads him to an old woman who might be able to whip up a potion that takes out the creature! But will it work? 

No spoilers here as you will need to read the book to find out what happens! 

Thoughts:

The more I read books by this author, the more I want to pursue everything he has written so that I can devour each and every book. Maybe not devour like the creature did in this book as that could get messy (lol), but the writing style is just so smooth as it pulls you totally into his world and keeps you trapped not only in his mind, but you become trapped in Fear county at least for this book. 

The story takes off right away in the first chapter with some creature action and from there is a slow build up of momentum of the story progressing along with introducing the characters that take part in this book.

It is more or less considered a coming of age story for the character Jeb Sweeney with the story going deep into his family life and how he ends up coping with learning what he needs to do to not only take care of his family but all the citizens that need help battling this creature. 

All or Ronald Kelly's stories though just grab you right away and keeps you in suspense as you make your way through them. There is never a dull moment when reading a Ronald Kelly book! :)

Heartsick by Chelsea Cain

Five "Gripping" Stars

When I read this book back in 2018, I was grabbed from the first chapter as there was lots of edge of the seat kindle swiping as I devoured this book!

Detective Sheridan is chasing a killer while at the same time trying to get over another serial killer that is now in prison. Though he cannot seem to break away from the serial killer he put away as he continues to seek her out as he tries to bring his life together.

Thoughts:

This is the first book in a series that seems to get better from book to book. Though I have only read the first four books in the series as there are six total so I need to finish up this series to see how it all ends. There is quite a bit of twists and turns within this book though as it kept me on the edge of my seat with suspense and intrigue.

A Traitor's War (The Metaframe War #2) by Graeme Rodaughan

Five "Ramp Ripping" Stars

This second book in the Metaframe War has just as much action than the first book! There is no time to breath or catch your breath as it literally picks up from the end of the first book!

A small taste of what lies within:

Anton Slayne wants revenge for his parents murder that happened in the previous book and as he settles into being with the forces that he joined which are a team of vampire hunters known as the Mirovar Force Team he has to learn some valuable lessons if he wants to exact revenge on that woman who snuffed out his parents life force. In the meantime, the woman, Chloe Armitage is actually a general in a vampire army that is led by Cornelius Crane who is the king of the vampires.

Thoughts:

The action is fast and furious in this storyline along with lots more of the cinematic movie theatre images that flashes behind your eyes as you delve deep into the book. The author, Graeme Rodaughan has a smooth and visual writing style that just captures the reader literally pulling them into his world. As the author writes about swords clashing and guns blazing you will not only see those images played out, you will also be able to hear them. 

This book will take you deep into conspiracies and deception which seeps into your soul as you become entangled in the web of this series. So when you enter the Metaframe be prepared to stay awhile as you won't be leaving anytime soon.
