I read this book back in April of 2019 as it kept coming across my Goodreads feed. It seemed all my friends were reading it, so I jumped on the bandwagon as well. I can tell you that I am happy that I did as I loved this book! 

It brought back so many memories of browsing through thrift store/bookstore shelves trying to find horror paperbacks and then pulling out the books with creepy covers it was like finding a treasure trove of horror gold! 

Author, Grady Hendrix compiled tons of information for this book along with the horror covers that I was just "giddy with excitement" seeing all of it within one book! It was just so cool to stroll back down memory lane and reading about all the books that are within these pages.

Four "Trick or Treat" Stars

This was a cool collection of Halloween stories by different horror authors that grabbed me when I read this book last October. All the stories were very good and each one had some sort of Halloween element to it which made it all the more spooky. I enjoyed all the stories as it just set the tone for Halloween and all things creepy!

The 13th by John Everson

Five "Bloody" Stars

This was a twisted and bloody romp through the mind of author, John Everson! I read this book back in March of 2019 as not only did the story intrigue me, but the cover just drew me in as well as I knew it was going to no doubt be a bloodfest and I can say that I was not disappointed!

A small taste of what lies within:

Women are disappearing and a mental asylum has reopened in a small town. No one can figure out what is going on till a police officer decides to investigate. When things go bad they will go bad quick!

Thoughts:

This was very fast paced and I am always impressed at how the author is able to grab me from the first page and take me on a ride into the depths of his mind! There is loads of tension, suspense, twists, turns, and oh there is also a lot of blood!

The Night It Got Out by Patrick James Ryan

Five "Bloody Rampage" Stars

Blood & Gore!

A small taste of what lies within:

A top secret creature from the government gets loose and tears apart the town of Mangas Pass, Colorado. The police chief of the town not only has to protect his citizens he has to deal with every government agency tromping through his town while everyone tries to hunt and kill the creature. 

When the creature gets to the town it leaves a bloody visceral trail of limbs and gore in its wake. Police Chief Don Girard goes head to head with the government officials as he tries to not only save his town but to hunt down and kill the creature!

That is about all I can hand out without giving away spoilers so if you want to know more then go grab this book!

Thoughts:

This was very fast paced story with lots of action, blood, gore, limb-ripping, decapitations....well you get the drift. This story just grabbed me right away and took me on a bloody ride into deep recesses of this author's mind.  This book had so much blood and gore that I had to grab my gore suit while reading. 

If you want a creature feature action adventure that drags you into pools of blood and gore then go read this book and let the author sink his creature fangs into you so you have something to remember him by!

Spooky Cult Takes Over! 

A small taste of what lies within:

Kirsty Thompson and some friends are out having a good time without a care in the world until she comes home and goes to bed. Noises in the night wake her up and she is not sure why she has alarm bells going off in her head, but she finds out quickly when an intruder attacks her rendering her unconscious with a needle in her neck.

When Kirsty finally wakes up in the morning with a terrible pain in her back she tries to remember what happened and why her back hurts. Kirsty calls the police. When the police arrive along with the paramedics, they examine her and find she has some kind of carving in her back! 

That is about all I can hand out with a small taste without giving away spoilers so if you want to know more then go read this book!

Thoughts:

What a spooky ride this book turned out to be! Of course I knew that when I sat down to read this book that I was going to be taken for a creepy ride into terror as that is what author Lee Mountford does as he grabs you from the get-go and pulls into his world. 

This was a suspenseful and tension filled story which has quite a bit of demonic atmosphere just radiating through the story which grabs you and drags you into the pits of hell! Another great book by this author which kept my "spooky meter" running in the red as I couldn't put this book down!

The Malan Witch by Catherine Cavendish

Would You Stay at the Malan Cottage? 

A small taste of what lies within:

Robyn Crowe is trying to pick up the pieces of her life after losing her husband, Simon to cancer. She is wanting to just get away somewhere where she can have some solitude and grieve in peace. Robyn's sister Holly and Holly's husband, Will own a small renovated cottage named "Malan Cottage" in a small village which sets by the sea and it is far away from everyday life. 

Though it seems to be the ideal place as Robyn settles in but then things go bad quickly as weird things start happening in the cottage with noises, foul odors, drafts, and stones that appear from nowhere in the kitchen. Robyn begins to wonder what is going on and if she made the right decision to stay there! 

That is about all I can give on a small taste so if you are intrigued then go check out this book! 

Thoughts:

This was an excellent spooky story that just whisked me away into the world of author, Catherine Cavendish! 

I just loved the setting of the story along with the characters as I became attached to all the characters in the book including the villagers that are involved in the story. This story is perfect for this time of year and with Halloween just around the corner this book is an awesome read for all things dark and creepy!

Mister Glow Bones: So you think that your Halloween cardboard hangings on your door will not come to life? Think again!

The Outhouse: If you see an outhouse with chains and a padlock, then leave it alone! Simple as that!

Billy's Mask: A Halloween mask like no other - downright spooky!

Pins and Needles: Halloween candy revenge in more ways than one!

Black Harvest: An unusual corn harvest - might give you some interesting dreams!

Pelingrad’s Pit: Never jump into a pit with ash as you never know what lies beneath!

Mister Mack & the Monster Mobile: Anyone up to having your organs swapped around? This one you have to read! Twisted story!

The Halloween Train: A train ride like no other - is it dreamland or horrorland?

These last three stories are about Halloween nostalgia memories which I thoroughly enjoyed about days gone by and having fun times not only during the month of October, but on Halloween.

Thoughts:

Days gone by and feelings of Halloween memories are wrapped up within these stories. Now there are some strange and weird stories in here, but they are all enjoyable which grabbed me from the first story of Mister Glow-Bones to the last stories which are memories from the author himself. 

I have to say that I just love the writing style of author, Ronald Kelly and how he weaves the stories around the reader making them feel that they are actually experiencing the stories themselves. 

Every book I have read by him so far captures that quality of making you feel that you are sitting around a campfire on a cold winter's night telling ghost stories. I love authors that are able to literally pull you into their world and keep you there for the duration of the stories. 

So go grab a mug of hot chocolate, dig out some marshmallows to roast over an open fire, and then prepare yourself to get cozy around the campfire as you step inside the mind of author, Ronald Kelly!
