Evil Whispers by Owl Goingback

Five "Voodoo Folklore" Stars

What Lies Within the Blackwater Lagoon?

A small taste of what lies within:

Robert and Janet Patterson along with their 10 year old daughter Krissy decide to stay at the Blackwater Fish Camp that is located in a rural part of Florida where life is more peaceful than what they are used to in the city. When Krissy starts telling her parents about her "special friend named Mansa" that she met out by the lagoon her parents kind of shrug it off thinking that Mansa is an imaginary friend.

The Pattersons learn soon enough though that Mansa is anything but imaginary as they find out from an old Seminole Indian that lives in the area that the imaginary friend is really an evil spirit named Mansa Du Paul who was once a voodoo sorcerer in that area.  Mansa is trying to do whatever he can to get back to the living so that he can continue practicing his evil magic and Mansa wants Krissy to help him complete the task of once again walking the earth!

That is about all I can hand out with a small taste so if you want to know more than go read this book!

Thoughts:

This was my first time reading this author and this book took me on a ride into the pits of voodoo hell as the story kept me glued to my kindle! I became so caught up in the story that everything disappeared around me and the visuals of the story just jumped right off the page!

The author just pulled me straight into the story and didn't let me go as I found myself barreling along wanting to see what would happen next. There are some gory parts that are weaved into the story as well which kept me turning the pages faster!

I loved all the characters in this book as they were well rounded and felt that they were like people that you could just sit down to talk with about things in Blackwater.

This author has quite a few more books out there that I will be exploring in the future.

The Exorcist Code Haunted 2 (The Exorcist's Code #2) by William Massa

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Occult Robotic Terror" Star

What Would Happen if Robots Ruled the World?

A small taste of what lies within:

Father Callum is back in this book with a new task set before him as things went wonky in the last book. A new robot (Lux) has entered the picture that was created to fight the forces of supernatural evil and is supposed to be the ultimate ghost hunter.

However when Lux is set forth in one of the most haunted mansions in Silicon Valley things do not go as planned as the evil entity of the mansion wants to take over Lux and create an army of evil robots, but Father Callum stands in the way of the forces of evil - can he stop the entity before it is too late?

That is about all I can hand out with a small taste so if you want to know more then go read this book and series!

Thoughts:

Once again author, William Massa slowly pulled me into this book as once again I thought I could just read a couple or so chapters but the story starts out a little slow with world building but it doesn't take long before I am slammed right back into the story that continues on from the first book.

After the 30% mark the story picks up speed to the point that I read about half the book in one sitting as things go from calm to action packed within just a few chapters! I was barreling along at the speed of light as I read this book in about two days and could hardly put the book down!

The characters come alive on the pages of this book and the evil villain ghost pulses with pure evil as it becomes the focal point in the latter part of the book. I was glued to my kindle and the book fueled my insomnia as I careened along at a high rate of speed!

I am planning on reading book three in the series shortly as I don't want to lose momentum with this series as book four will be out at the end of this year. Another great book by this author and I am looking forward to reading some more of his books in the future.

Dystopia (A Short Story Collection) by David Kempf

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "Suspenseful Stories" Stars

Thoughts:

This is a collection of short stories that I barreled through as I became caught up in the different stories as I sat in my cozy chair.  There are 11 short stories that lie within the pages of this book and I enjoyed all of them, but I have a couple of favorites:

The Pawn Lottery (three parts to this story) - different concept on being rich - after reading this story I wouldn't want to be one of the elite. :)

Dark Travels (three parts to this story) - this story is about a time traveler that is looking for Utopia and what he has to endure with finding it.

All in all the short stories captured my attention and kept me reading them as I wanted to see what all the stories were about.  I always enjoy reading this author as he has some different ideas about the stories that he writes that keeps me glued to my kindle.

Spite House (The Spite House Chronicles Book 1) by Tamara Thorne and Alistair Cross

👻👻👻👻👻

Five "Shivering Spooky Suspense" Stars

Would You Stay the Night in Spite House?

A small taste of what lies within:

The Manchester family own an island called Spite Island which upon the island sits a mansion called Spite House. The house has now been opened to let authors stay in the house so they can write about what has taken place there. As the matriarch, Agnes overlooks everything including what the authors do while they spend their time there - the house itself starts to slowly come to life as the ghosts that haunt the house wake up when the authors start exploring the mansion!

That is about all I can hand out with a small taste without giving away spoilers so if you want to know more then go read this book!

Thoughts:

Thorne and Cross bring this book alive on the pages as I found myself just sinking into my cozy chair and letting this book transport me into Spite House.  There are quite a few characters to keep track of with not only the authors but the house staff as well but each one has their own personality. I loved all the characters including "Bernie" - oh you want to know who Bernie is - well you will need to read the book as I am not divulging that information (😍),  but the characters in this book is what kept me turning the pages long into the night!

I literally read the last 30% within the last two days as the story just escalated to the point that I would find myself reading late into the night as more things started happening in the story! Thorne and Cross always keep me tied up in knots when I read their books as I never know what will be happening but their stories flow along at a great pace and I always enjoy their books immensely!

With that being said I have started book two in the series called "Spite Island" as book one kind of ends in a way that I need to read book two now! Yes! Right now! 😄  So if you are in the mood for a spooky and suspenseful ride then go check out this book! :)
