Devil Music by Michael Penning

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Hell Ride Horror" Stars

How Far Would You Go to See Justice Done?

A small taste of what lies within:

Rowan Pierce wants revenge any way she can for the murder of her daughter as two classmate boys took her daughter's life.

She blames some of the murder on the metal band Haruspex for their song lyrics, but when Rowan goes to confront the lead singer Cole Abel for what he did to her daughter she finds out that Cole can help her tap into her raw emotions through the metal music and the occult to make the murderers pay for their crimes another way - though that will lead her on a path into hell - but does she want to follow that path?

That is about all I can hand out with a small taste so if you are intrigued then go read this book!

Thoughts:

This book was one "hell of a ride" into terror as the character Rowan seeks revenge for her daughter. The author weaves an emotional story of just how far a mother will go to get vengeance for her child. The author, Michael Penning taps into deep emotions in this story and brings everything to a crescendo boil as the story goes deep into the heart of the character Rowan.

I have been reading this author for awhile now as I am reading a series of books by him and his stories always capture the essence of what is happening within the story. He brings raw emotions to the table in this book and goes deep into the occult theme showing just how far anyone would go to see justice done.

The pace was fast in this book as I would find myself reading it late into the night as I could not put the book down! Another great book by this author!

The Ojanox I: Scream in the Dark (The Ojanox Series Book 1) by Daemon Manx

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Twisted Terror" Stars

What Has Invaded Garrett Grove?

A small taste of what lies within:

The small town of Garrett Grove is preparing for Halloween and two friends, Troy and Rob have decided to make a haunted house project to give the kids of Garrett Grove a scare, but something stirs in the small town - something evil has invaded the heart and soul of the town bringing death to the small community.

The town will need to figure out why the people are dying and what is killing their friends/neighbors as it will consume them all if they don't find out how to stop it!

That is about all I can hand out with a small taste so if you are intrigued then go read this book!

Thoughts:

This is my first time reading this author and "WOW" I was pulled right into the story line right away! Read the first 27% of the book within a few hours and could barely put it down! The author gives out visuals of the small town of Garrett Grove making it feel like you are really there experiencing the cool autumn air and the Halloween theme that has come into the town.

I loved all the characters in this book and they each have their own personality - I could feel their bewilderment of what was taking place in their town and could feel the horror weaving its tendrils around each of them as they tried to figure out what was going on.

The pace of the book never lets up as it careens along at a high rate of speed! I would find myself reading late into the night with this book and even stayed up till near 3 am one morning as I just could not put the book down!

This is a four part series and I am looking forward to stepping foot into book two here soon as I want to see what happens next!

Darling Girls (The Vampires of Candle Bay and Crimson Cove) by Tamara Thorne and Alistair Cross

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Bloody Fangs" Stars

What Happens at the Biting Man Festival?

A small taste of what lies within:

The Biting Man Festival is coming to Eternity, California and the vampires are coming out in full swing to attend. Vampires from Candle Bay and Crimson Cove are planning on having some fun at the festival but someone is planning on thwarting their plans - a vampire hunter is going to attend as well causing some chaos in the process!

That is about all I can hand out with a small taste without giving away spoilers as there is so much that happens within this story that I cannot divulge anything else so if you are intrigued then go read this book!

Thoughts:

This book is sort of a companion book to the book Candle Bay by Tamara Thorne and Crimson Cove by Alistair Cross and it sort of fits in between both books as it brings together vampires from both series into this book so to understand background on the vampires within this story it might be best to read those other two books first to understand what takes place in this book.

There is quite a bit of vampire action that lies within this book along with some suspense and intrigue. Both authors come together and bring these characters to life within these pages. Lots of edge of the seat tension when everything picks up speed the story barrels along quickly. This book is a hefty one though but the story pulled me back into the lives of some of the vampire characters from the other books I have read by these authors! Looking forward to reading the rest of the books that these authors wrote that are weaved around the vampires!

Dying for Daddy: The True Story of a Family's Worst Nightmare by Carlton Smith

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four "True Terror" Stars

Thoughts:

I am not doing my traditional small taste as I am just going to give out my thoughts on this true crime story.

The story is wrapped around a man by the name of Jack Barron who "supposedly" murdered his wife, two children and his mother but everything that happened was all based on "circumstantial evidence" and Jack never cracked under pressure from the interrogations by the police as he stayed as a cool as a cucumber with no confession. Everyone knows he did it but they could not "prove" that he did it up until after his mother was murdered then they finally went after him!

How could they wait until the fourth murder to do anything?! Are you serious! This story just shell shocked me on how they could not have thrown him in prison after the murder of his wife and then him killing his children but they didn't proceed to do anything "till" the murder of his mother with finally seeing justice done and even then it took them forever to sentence him as it was years later before he finally went to prison! At least justice was finally served but I felt that it took forever for him to be tossed in a prison cell!

The Trinket Box by John Kaden

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Memory Terrors" Stars

What Really Lies Within the Past?

A small taste of what lies within:

Milton Brooks still grieves for his wife that passed away five years ago and he clings to a cigar trinket box that holds memories of the past. Milton's neighbor Ralph gives Milton a memory jolt though that drives Milton out of the house and into the past trying to find those memories that are stored deep into his mind, but where does the road take him and what does he find when he gets there?

That is about all I can hand out on a small taste without giving away spoilers so if you want to know more then go read this book!

Thoughts:

This was my second book by this author and I barreled through it at a high rate of speed with it being a short story it went fast with the pacing! I read it all in one sitting as I couldn't put it down! Once the story started there was no way I was moving out of my cozy chair as I wanted to finish the story to the end! I loved the characters in this one - there were not many either - the main focus of the story was on Milton and his memories that were fading.

I wish this author had more stories out there as I would dive into them all but alas the author only has two horror ones and a fantasy that I need to read at some point. All in all a great short story with a twist that gave me a "jolt" near the end of the book!

The Devil's Doorway by Steven Pajak

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five "Demon Danger" Stars

What Kind of Doorway Has Been Opened?

A small taste of what lies within:

Kate is called home to be with her father who seems to have had a stroke. She soon realizes that it is more than that as it seems her father was dabbling in the occult with trying to reach out to the spirit world to contact her mother who passed away.

Kate hooks up with an old friend, James and they both try to seek answers on what her father was doing and what has invaded his home. They find more than they bargained for when they realize that their father brought forth a demon and now they wonder what they will need to do to get rid of it!

That is about all I can hand out with a small taste so if you want to know more then go read this book!

Thoughts:

Wow! First time reading this author and it won't be last as I loved this book! The story was saturated in the occult/demon world but the writing style of this author drew me right into the story line quick and kept me there for the duration of the book!

I loved all the characters and there was quite a bit of raw emotion with this story as well that was centered around some life choices that the character Kate had to make concerning her father. I loved how quick the pace was set as well and I would find myself reading this book late into the night as I could not put it down! Looking forward to reading more books by this author as I have found another horror author to add to my ever growing horror list!
